Last time I checked Mazda was owned by Ford, and the most used proving grounds in the world are close to Detroit............along with lots of spys hopefully.

And have the RX-8, and so on, continue the rotary existence.
I agree totally. I really think that the automotive industry is going to change dramatically in the next 5-10 years as far as saftey and emissions are concerned. Thats why i think the engineers at Mazda created the 3rd Gen because they knew if they were going to make something with twin turbos and a chassie with light-weight materials now would be the time to do it (1993-1995). I do agree the FD is a safe car, it is a small car at that and people associate the size of cars with saftey and therefore i do not think a small car with a lot of horse power will allow Ford/Mazda to sell as many units as Ford would want them to.

Ford wants Mazda to build a car that sells thousands of units and Mazda would like to bring a successor 4th gen to the market but i think its practicality would be the same as the FD. It wouldnt sell as many units or probably about the same as it did before leaving the question will there be another 4th gen RX-7? I dont know but unless they (Ford) accept the fact that the RX-7 has to enter a niche market to survive and keep its past history as a true sports car i dont think its going to happen. I would more or less lean on the fact of an RX-9 but not another RX-7. Sorry to sound so pessimistic.
