Issues with my new 93 R1
#52
*UPDATE*
Well, I discovered yet another issue this past Sunday afternoon. I started the car while I had the hood up and the driver's door open. After it warmed to normal operating temp, I shut the hood and the RPM dropped way down (nearly stalled). I then got in the car and shut the door and it did it again. Could this be a grounding problem? I did a search on it and nothing was mentioned about a drop in RPM in situations like this. Can someone give me a little insite on grounds and the grounding locations?

There is a knock sensor that will retard the timing if "knock" is detected. I know you can manually make this happen by tapping the block with a hammer or wrench when it is running, but I am not sure about closing the hood or door. I would have a hard time believing that it could be that sensitive, but who knows.
Not really sure why you think it is a grounding problem? The hood and doors are not used for grounding. Is your 3K rpm hesitation really bad?

UPDATE: FD is up and running!!!!
I have completed all the repairs/upgrades. New silicone vacuum hoses, HKS downpipe, new rewired airpump, new thermostat, housing and pump, all new gaskets for turbo inlets, intake and waterpump, aluminum AST, new belts, spark plugs and wires, K&N filter and silicone turbo couplers.
Man, it runs so good now... well, 100% better than it did when I bought it. Word of warning... never do a silicone hose job during Spring... you will be cleaning POLLEN off you hoses during the entire process!!! I'll give a complete run-down step by step later today on all the things I did.

Don, right? This is Russ, from APOC! Wassup?!?! I know it's you because well, obviously HDP. But the 93 PGT and the "When it happens..." quote that you brought over from the other msg board.
Long time no see, but it's awesome you got an FD too! At least you got to keep your daily driver though, mine was totalled. Did you get to ride in my car long long ago at John P.'s house on new years? Maybe that had something to do with your recent purchase? I've got Tim Benton to thank for my first ride. I think he was making around 316 to the wheels. I was hooked the first time he hit the gas. It was then I decided the RX had to be my next car.
It awesome you got your car going again better than before. So what year/mileage/color/interior/model, etc. RX did you find? You can PM me if you'd like.

Hey, what's up Russ? Yeah, I decided to get a 7 when I wrecked the PGT(minor damage). I had checked out Tim's when we went on that mountain drive a while back and said when I do get another sports car it would be a 7.
I think that was my cousin Adrian you took for a ride. That's all he talked about while we were at John's that night.
It's a 93 red R1, (pic to the left) about 82K on it now, original motor and turbos, really nice black interior, and just painted in August. I bought it off ebay this past November and flew up to Maryland to pick it up. It's an interesting story how I came to own this one after being stood up on a previous deal in Birmingham.
A few of the Alabama guys/girls are getting together on May 17th Alabama Meet If you are free that weekend, you should roll on up.

Right, now I remember. It was your cousin.
So is your car running 100% ?? I know how it is when your car ain't running like it should. Aside from the stock precat, I really haven't had any problems with my car at all. I got really lucky.
Anyway, I'll look into the Alabama meet, but if it's not near Auburn, I won't put the miles on the car.
