Issues on this FD..should i buy?
Hey guys, i was looking at the forsale section and i found this FD for sale, https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=670602 .
The car looks great and has low miles, 49,000. However he stated 3 problems.
1) Boost leak
2)An occasional 5th gear synchro
3)temperamental RPM Gauge
He wants 12k obo, i really want to pick it up but im scared that it'll cost an arm and a leg to fix these issues. Can someone let me know how much itll cost to repair this FD. Thank you.

5th gear synchro is easy to avoid grinding, just takes practice. From 4th to 5th: clutch in > neutral > wait 1 second > slide into 5th > clutch out. I bought my FD with a semi-bad 5th gear synchro, and ever since I've just learned to work around it, only problem you'll face is on the interstate, if for some reason you have to pull it out of 5th, you'll have to go back into 4th and repeat the process above, no biggie.
3) Could be wiring, could be ignition components.
$12,000 for a 49,000 mi FD is great. All FDs are going to come with their share of unique problems, you either have to suck it up and deal with them/fix them, or keep dreaming until this "unicorn" FD comes up on the market that has never had a single problem with it and never will.

there's something fishy about it...i got a great deal for mine 52k original miles $16,300, just downpipe.
it could be a guy that simply doesnt know how to fix a simple boost leak? get someone who knows a good bit about rx7's in the area to go with you to inspect things, ask around on the forum for someone. and....drive it first! hope this helps you figure things out

also to be safe get that rotary specialist dude to give a compression test so you can know more or less where the motor stands. it would suck buying it only for you to need a rebuild couple months later or more. the 3rd gen FAQs have information on boost leaks and possibly information to fix that RPM gauge.
also +1 on the 5th gear synchro, when i barely got my FD i would grind it into 5th gear until one day i decided to put it into neutral first then shift back to 5th in a fluid motion. no grind there after that

I just looked at his cardomain pictures, he is missing the IC ducting. It shouldn't be to hard to pick that up considering how many people have aftermarket intercoolers. I hope it works out for you man, good luck.
