Installing Boost Pills

Hey everyone,

After installing my dp, I am getting a little boost spike on primary. Pettit included these pills (or jets?) with them downpipe, so I'm going to install them.
My question is, how many am I supposed to install? Pettit provided 2 of them. But there was only 1 when I went to take the old ones out. I'm only concerned with the hose that is connecting the turbo and the Wastegate Valve, right? Or is there another pill somewhere else?
Also, what side of the pill should be facing the Wastegate valve?

Thanks,
Matt

There should be one pill in each line. I can't remember which one is supposed to have the bigger pill.

Earlier FDs had pills in the hoses between the #1 turbo and WG actuator and PreControl (PC) actuator. Later FDs had the pills inside and part of the two nipples on the #1 turbo outlet. If the later, then you would have to drill them out first. It is better to use two small brass water valves mounted on the fender. This way it is faster and way easier to make changes when needed which will be your case.

Ok, I installed the pills provided by Pettit. I put a 64 in the Wastegate line and a 67 in the PreControl Line.
However, boost is still high. My primary boost tops out at about 12-13.
Transition is fine, no spiking. It might even drop a little low.
Overall, my boost pattern is about 12.5, 7, 9.
Is that 12.5 dangerous? The downpipe is my only mod.
Also, I know I have an exhaust leak between the downpipe and the main cat. Could that be contributing to the problem?

That all seems fine. The exhaust leak is probably small and therefore not significant.

So hitting 13 psi is nothing to worry about? Won't it cause more stress? I'd rather have the normal 10-8-10 pattern if possible. Would a different sized pill help?

I think the pills are not the right size for your system. Here are the rules for pill usage assuming a larger number jet has a larger size hole.

WG: a larger pill lowers boost, a smaller pill raises boost.

PC: a larger pill lowers boost and increases the transistion boost/spike, a smaller pill raises boost and lowers the transistion boost/spike.

Looks like you need an even smaller WG pill and an even larger PC pill.

If the PC and WG solenoid hose or connectors are crossed connected, then wierd boost patterns can happen which what yours looks like. Very high #1 boost, and low #2 boost. Why? The PC solenoid is closed until about 4500 rpm. If this is controlling the WG, it is close untill 4500 then stays opened. Thus closed WG untill 4500 then stays opened.

Thanks for the help guys.
I put the larger 67 pill in the Wastegate line and put the stock pill back in the PC line. Boost pattern is much better now. I'm getting about 10-11 on primary, 7.5-8 on changeover, and 9.5-10 on secondary.
I did occassionally see my primary hit 12, but it was rare. I'll be keeping a close eye on it the next few days.
Thanks again.

Usually I would not do this BUT your boost pattern is screwy!

I would go to Home Depot and get the 2 valves. You need to get your precontrol to open sooner so you can increase the # on the middle of your boost pattern. You could adjust from 13-7-9 to 11-10-9 and that will also feel better and smoother!

I highly recommend it to you! I like the pills myself but I dont have the same problem as you do!
