If you absolutely had to jack the car up from the side, fold a shop towel/rag up and put it in the saddle of the jack to protect the suspension component. You can use the front of the rear trailing arms as a jack point or the rear mounting point of the front lower control arms. You're not going to hurt them if you use some padding.
In fact, the area just in front of the rear trailing arm makes a perfect point to put a jack stand, right where the rear subframe bolts to the body of the car. It leaves everything wide open in the rear to works on brakes, suspension, differential, or exhaust.

So if it's bad to jack the car at that point, is it also bad to support the car on jackstands at those points as well? Not ON the pinch welds, but just inside them, say... with the removal of those damn teeth, btw, to keep from denting the body in those areas...
