I was thinking about Trading IS300 for RX7

I had an offer for my IS300 for the RX7 that is on the link i will give you. The RX7 is a 94' It has a T78 Turbo instead of the stock twin turbo. The motor was rebuilt 27k miles ago and the tranny was rebuilt 10k miles ago. The owner said it puts out between 450 and 500 RWHP. HEre is the link to the Website. Please someone help me out and tell me if anything sounds wrong. Please tell me what you think. I need a little expert help. Here is the Link to the RX7

Well, I'm not quite an RX-7 expert yet, but I think some reply is better than no reply. Why is he selling? How much is your IS300 worth? Have you gotten to test-drive it?

Personally I had bad luck with a modded Subaru that I bought, and I've been very happy with my stock RX-7. Does this mean RX-7's are better than Impreza's or that stock cars are better than modded cars? The test drive was what made me decide. My 3rd Gen seems to fit me better, the seats & pedal position, and I prefer the way the suspension geometry is set up, low center of gravity, etc... so what works for me might not work for you.

Mods-wise, he seems OK, big turbo with the computer, extra fuel, and intercooler upgrades to support it. He didn't mention an aftermarket radiator, which I would look for in a car that makes that much power, but he has a vented hood which will help with cooling, and the water temp. and boost pressure gauges are good to have. I don't see the point of the a/f gauge, but maybe he's got a wideband O2 sensor on there and didn't mention it.

There are a million little things that could go wrong with FD's though, I would have it compression checked before buying a car that has seen that amount of modification.

Good luck,
-s-

Thanks a lot, I think that is what i was looking for. I appreciate your help

My IS300 is an 01 automatic with 52k miles, I hate it being an A/T and it is so slow it drives me crazy. They said they would trade me the RX plus 2k for my IS I think it is a pretty good deal. Once again thanks for all the help and i think i will have an FD by next week. I will get full pictures up for ya.

doesnt look too bad. I am wondering if he has an upgraded fuel pump. Also, stock rad needs to get upgraded.

it's refreshing to see one of these "for sale" mod lists that actually makes sense.

if you are going to buy the FD, do yourself a favor and spend the $2k to get a second car, an old beater honda. As a guy that bought his FD back in 1998 and has lots of experience, trust me on this one

Be sure you find out who did the turbo install and engine rebuild. The RX7 should be around $15k the most since it's got 115k miles on the body. I hope it's got a fresh motor w warranty along with the turbo. Otherwise, don't touch it. These motors if not done properly, can break easily and will cost $8k for engine and turbo rebuild. Make sure you take it to a rotary specialist to have it checked out. Don't bother with Mazda dealers, they are useless!!

Your IS should be somewhere around $17600 according to kbb.com or edmunds.com. So, you should get $500-600.

Something that I noticed.
Amazing that the owner chose ADR wheels (cheap and heavy) on a car that he has obviously spent lots of money on to go fast.

Ask what the offsets are on those wheels. The front's look like they are +33, which means that if you plan on lowering the car to get rid of that fender gap from hell you won't be able to because you will rub like crazy.

Not really a deal breaker but at least you won't be blindsided by a rubbing problem.

This is what I mean: Check how far out the front wheel sticks out.

Fender Gap:

It does look like a decent car. but as the Good Fella said...2nd car is needed..I have only had my car a little over 2 years and have 1/2 the experience as the Good Fella and I know it's almost a necessity to have a 2nd car...Doens't have to be a great car...Just a car that runs and takes you here and there when (notice I didn't say IF) your 7 is down. I'd trade....but that's just me
