Check the boost sensor vacuum line near the firewall. Mine pops off like once every couple months and every time it happens I'm like oh **** I have just blown my engine. I think I am going to super glue those bitches on there. But when that line comes off the car has all the symptoms you are describing including lots of smoke, rough idle, and no power.

If you have access to a compression tester, I would do that first. Just in case you did blow the engine, there is no sense in spending days looking over stuff that won't matter.
If the compression is ok, then start looking at other possible causes.

Hum could be the motor. When you say it's a weird smell from the motor, has there been any raditor coolent leaking out of it? Just wandering because sometimes when a coolent seal is going out. It can have a sweet kind of smell and hard to start up.

sorry to hear that, this though is why we try to warn potential owners of these cars on this board. Sometimes we get ridiculed for telling people the car is not for them, but then again were just trying to help people not end up in your position (the same position i was in 2 years ago) I guess some people have to learn firsthand tho.
good luck with your sale.

Dude,
i will buy that engine off you for $100 but i will want you to take some pictures first so i can see how bad you screwed her up. i left you some pointers on replacing your seals in your other thred. how did you check your compression? did you bring it to a shop? you might not be as bad as you think if you got lucky you could hav just heated up the engine and the springs on the apex seals which are tempered steel could have been heated to the point they are not pushing the seal up and you are loosing compression. Like i said good luck with it if you need to go all out you should be able to get a new engine in her for around 2500 and it will be a good one too. there a a bunch of good shops you can do it yourself for around 1200 and that can include a street port and all new seals. it all depends on how much love you have for her. again
Best of luck let me know if you want to part her out i would get some stuff from you
