wow man sorry to hear that....it's crazy because I almost had quite the accident today as well.

I was driving down the road and this old guy in a huge tahoe is like rushing out of a walgreens parking lot and sees me or doesn't and continues right out into my lane...Thankfully nobody was in the left lane and I swerved with all my might to avoid the guy. He was oblivious and probably shouldn't even be driving....he had those REALLY huge black goggle things on that old people wear. After replaying things a few times in my mind I thought maybe I should of just let him hit me, maybe get a new bumper or something....but instinct instantly took over and I avoided it

all I can say is there are some times that we love how nimble the FD is (like my situation) and there are other times we don't (like what happen to you)

all in all, your not hurt so be happy about that

I did some research for you.

You may want to visit this website site.

They sell quarterpanel for the RX-7.

Just incase you decide to get new ones. This online store maybe the one for you.

^ What you just quoted is a copy of the rear widebody panel for the Chargespeed kit, that's not a stock replacement.

Rear FD quarters are PN FDY1-70-400C for the right side, FDY1-71-400C for the left.

Inner panel, if you need it, is FDY1-70-110A for the right.

Call Ray@Malloy and get a quote.

Mazdapartscheap.com quotes $600 for the outer panel and $400 for the inner panel. Ray is usually a little cheaper. I wonder if he will ship such large items?

Good thing you did avoid him, because it would have been your fault or at least "no fault". About the only time a situation like that goes in favor of you is if the car drives into the side behind the middle of your car. Is it BS? Most definitely.

I think anyone who drives with their mouth hanging open should get ticketed and sent back for a license re-test. If driving is so consumingly difficult that you forget to hold your jaw in a normal position, then you're not up to the task I think.

also what were the part numbers? sorry i always have trouble with the dam parts manual. i have FD01-52-111b for the drivers side rear quarter panel? i saw a different part number and am wonderin what i missed.

also for great reference i found a autobody guide for the FD!

Hmm. And what about the parked car you hit? How much damage was done to it?

Sorry to see you have banged up your pride and joy... That seriously doesn't look like too much drama for a good panel shop though, its all about the money! Pay it and see your baby restored back to its previous glory.

Hope it all goes well for you... would have been the worst feeling when it happened. Least you are ok and well.

not very much, driver rear door and quarter panel were scratched with a very small dent. both the door and rear quarter panel could be fixed and repainted fairly easily.

it just looks alot worse than what it should be, it just looks bad because the rear quarter just folded right in flush with my piddly *** tire/wheel combo. it barely even scratched the wheel and the tire has no chunks out of it.

so i got everything off though and measured all the points and its still straight and true and there is no suspension damage or anything, had to hit in the worst spot though....

at least you're OK. Make sure to check out your suspension arms/bushings and axle/hub for lateral play/slop etc. My suspension arms were bent from my similar "slammage" Best of luck and don't let it get you down, like dj said it's just a car--albeit a might cool one

I had a wreck very much like this one. They will replace the rear panel. They repaired my door but I wouldn't suggest doing that. Replacement is better.

LOL! I'll make sure to get my jaw wired if I'm still driving my FD when I get really old...

Back to the topic at hand, the rear panel could be repaired with enough work, but anything can be repaired with enough work and $$$. Better to find a used or new rear quarter in better condition.

This won help you but i got a story for ya!

In the year 1999 i had a 1989 turbo II with like 60k miles in mint condition and the interior was also nice. I was driving down this street when i see a stray dog walking thought the traffic. I wanted to help the dog by bringing it to an animal shelter.been that i was in my "turbo II" i was think about it but finally my heart gave in. I pick up the dog and sat him in the passenger seat "Did i mention that the dog was pretty large" all of a sudden the dog goes mad and starts bitting ripping my mint leather seats with some aggression. I don't know what happened to this dog but i panicked and kicked him out of my car back in the the traffic. That was the last time i`ll ever do that.

anyway my leather seats got ripped...and i was pissed...thats my story.

how are your tyres?

they look bald in the pic... but it could be the angle of the camera to the car deceiving my perception..

i can see how that may exacerbated you into the spin, expecially if it was raining...

just a thought.
