Batman I want my car to look very similar to yours, except I want bronze rims. But I think I'm going to use your car as my inspiration =P

Well, I certainly don't want any credit coming this way if ur doing bronze rims over a double-decker-decapitator-rice-master-king-of-wings.

It's kinda funny when I slowly pass a guy with what he thinks is the baddest wing and mines taller and wider than anything on the road.

I like the way it looks on red with gunmetal. The day mi chrome plating falls off I will go that route.

i am getting ready to paint mine also. i just took the tires off all the wheels a couple days ago so i could do this without having the tires on them. i was thinking about sandblasting them first to get all the **** off of them, is that a good idea. i had a drunk driver hit my car this past april and when he hit it, the impact was so hard that the inside of the front drivers side wheel hit the lower control arm and cracked the wheel. so i bought another wheel from somebody on the fourm a couple months ago. the one he sold me has some kind of clear coat on it, and its really shinny compared to the other three that i already had. im doing this so they all look the same. im going to paint them black, and my plan was to sandblast them all, paint them and then put some kind of clear coat on. i have never attempted this before. what kind of black paint should i use that wont end up falling off, and what should i use as a clear coat of whatever to give them that nice looking shine. thanks for the help

Guys, get it powder coated.

painting rims is sooooo ghetto.

Powder coating is the same finish on most appliances.

It takes a beating from stuff like rock chips.

paint that close to the ground will get beat over time.

Why is it ghetto? It's actually practical.

1) you don't need to take the tires off
2) you can use aircraft stripper to give a clean surface
3) it costs $10
4) you can repaint it to any color by doing it again

Besides, powdercoating adds unsprung weight

Now u just defined that ghetto factor right there.

it's only 1 once of unsprung weight.

What's the best procedure and paint to use? My rims look pretty bad these days due to using Porterfield racing pads for the last 3 years (nothing can clear up the brake dust, but stop on a freakin' dime).

Thanks!

Powder coating is definately the way to go. If you want your paint job to last than powder coating them is what you want. The ghetto factor... I dunno about that, painting the rims won't make them "ghetto" but it just won't last as long.

The unsprung weight was a joke. (FYI, you don't need to make mention of vagina or secretions to make a joke).

Considering the stock wheels are painted, and don't have any particular problem with chipping, I think you have no point.

Then again, the opinion of a grown man with an obsession with Batman counts for how much these days? Shouldn't you have switched to Daredevil by now?

damn all i was doing by starting this thread was to get peoples opinions on what color i should paint them. I just graduated auto body repair school, and know how to properly paint ****. It will not flake off or any kind of **** like that if you do it right, and take care of them, and if you know how to park by a curb with out hitting it. I will paint mine in a few days, and post pics so you guys can see.

I knew that was a joke, hence my response.

Next time I'll add the smile so u know (or make some reference to roosters and cats).

Daredevil is blind and takes the subway.

That wouldn't be too swank for BATMAN.

Here's red with bronze rims. The car is dirty though, deal with it.

Well... you need a gun, powder, and a over to bake it in. Some people use old house ovens to save cash. They get the job done. Also I would invest in a bead-blaster. Powdercoating is only as good as the preparation you put into the product. People have even made bead-blasting cabinets by going to Home Depot. If you just want to buy the stuff, go to www.harborfreight.com They have some pretty ok stuff for low prices.

**edit** decided to have a look around the site

Gun $59 - http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=46299

An oven $399 (not really big enough to bake a rim in) - http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=46300

Blasting Cabinet $279 - http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=39170

Just make your money back by charging your friends to powder coat their ****.

One uses Batman's wheels overlaid on my car, the other one darkens the stock grey until it looks black - more like a semi-gloss finish. Keep in mind the brakes may show through as much lighter - in my pics you don't see that.
