How to wire a toggle switch?

Dumb question...

I have a fan that I am hooking up to my intercooler to control the heat sink. I am not 100 pct sure how to hook it up.

I tried hooking up the positive from the fan to the positive of the switch (actually its not marked positive or negative) and then tried hooking the ground from the fan to the other connector to the switch. I have tried grounding that too...

In a nutshell I am clueless. The best I am able to do is have the fan running constantly. the off switch usually has no effect.

If anyone has a link or can explain how the wiring works. I would appreciate it. I know its simple.

Hook the positive side of the fan to the positive battery terminal or other 12v source, and hook the negative wire of the fan to either side of the switch. Then hook the other side of the switch to a ground.
