Well…..I don’t post much but I felt like chiming in on this.
Personally I feel that a bit of arrogance is warranted by the more experienced/knowledgeable members. We’ve all paid our “dues” with terse responses to our noobie questions. And by these responses we all have all learned (for the most part) that these cars are not to be trifled with. They are a special breed unlike cars that came before or since. And lets be honest there not making them any more! So every time one gets trashed that’s a little part of our community gone. Not to mention with every “noobie” screw up and resulting repair that means there are less parts for the rest of us.
Don’t get me wrong I am not calling any one here a noobie. However questions like this demonstrate a lack of basic skill. I mean come on…………there are free wiring diagrams here in the forum. (Along with free repair manuals) And it’s a single polarity circuit. Just ground the freaking led and the buzzer goes off. Simple………..BUT we all know what will happen if it gets too hot…………….Welp……………there goes another 7……………..
And we all know how reliable aftermarket water temp gages are on a rotary….?
When I see posts asking questions like this I think to my self “OH great there goes another 7 down the tubes” And I KNOW you all have seen EXACTLY what I am talking about.
How many times have we all seen a random post where some one that is CLEARLY clueless asks how to do some thing simple but has HUGE repercussions? Only to find out some time later that they screwed it up so bad that they decided to burn it for the insurance…………………………? WELP ………………….there goes another 7…………. Our community is not growing its shrinking.
Lets be frank RX7’s do not suffer fools, and owning a 7 is an obsession. Other wise a person would be better off in another car of their choice/tastes.
With regard to rude posts: Yes they are often taken too far. But on the other hand RARELY is their question NOT answered. Its true that often that the answer is not wrapped up in a nice pink bow. But HEY you’re still getting VALUABLE information from people that have worked hard to acquire it.
I mean HONESTLY when was the last time a lawyer walked up to you and said “hey bud……how about I work my *** off for you and use my knowledge to help you out for free?”
Or when was the last time a grown man walked up to you and asked “how do I tie my shoes?”
Both cases provoke a terse response.
Right, wrong or indifferent that’s just how things are.
PS Let me be clear i am not refering to any one specific here just general terms

Seriously, this is a tech thread. If you don't want to help the guy because he seems new to cars, unsure of what he is doing, or you just don't agree with what he is doing, STFU.
The purpose of this thread is to help a fellow out, not bash him. I hope the mods either lock or delete this thread.

One that REALLY pissed me off was the guy here on the forums that was getting rid of his FD, but instead of just selling it, he parted it out and crushed the chassis so no one else could drive it. If you ask me, that's just being a selfish little bitch. Some came to his defense by saying again and again "well it's his car, he can do what he wants with it". True, but he's still a little bitch.
Like I said though, blowing an engine is not even CLOSE to ruining the whole car. I don't get too upset about someone buying an FD and having to eventually sell it because they didn't know how to fix it...it's sort of an automotive natural selection. Similar to what you said, these cars weed out those undeserving...most of the time. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone that burned their FD for insurance money though.
And what were you saying about aftermarket water temp gauges? Were you saying they ARE reliable or NOT reliable? Because I'd say mine is pretty reliable, much more so than the vague and "well, too late now" stock gauge.
So a 427 SC cobra is just a Ford...........Right?
A Baldwin Motion SuperCoupe is just a old camaro..........Right?
And a Austan martin DB5 is just a British Leyland........Right?

Everyone in this thread is a d+ck but what we need is some more p-ssy around here to slow the nut roll.
Don't offer a solution or tell him how to fix anything just sympothize w/ him and gently suggest he unplug it.
I'll guarantee some swinging dick said this: "many people give advice but only the wise profit from it"
Now let me get my nut sack rolling: Stop whining like a little bitch and fix the ******* sensor.

1- I hardly think a blown engine = a destroyed 7.
2-I don't think I've ever heard of anyone that burned their FD for insurance money though.
3-And what were you saying about aftermarket water temp gauges? Were you saying they ARE reliable or NOT reliable? Because I'd say mine is pretty reliable, much more so than the vague and "well, too late now" stock gauge.
4-I have to agree with Uncle Hungry on this one. As much as I absolutely LOVE the 7, they're just becoming too affordable these days, to where any moron with a little money can pick up one and ruin it. The Supra may be getting closer, but they still go for quite a bit more. So I'd say most of the vehicles you listed there don't really go on that list.
1....Correct a blown engine is not instadeath. However another foolishly blown engine just perpetuates the old “Rotaries are no good” bull crap. How many people actually admit they did some thing stupid and blew their engine? And how many of those people just blame it on the “rotaries are just crap” mantra? But every single blown engine further serves to degrade the reputation of the 7.And its annoying as hell to see people do completely stupid crap and then blame the inevitable consequences on the car and not own up to their own BS. Eventually you get to a point where people say “ahh who cares its not going to last any ways” with is VERY prevalent today. And that exact mind set WILL lead to another DEAD 7, sooner or later.
Case in point: I was in a local shop the other day talking with a 7 owner. And he asked about getting an engine built. So I asked him what happened to his last one. And he replied “nothing” but I know I’m going to need one soon. Right about then I had a puzzled look on my face, and he said “every one tells me that the rotary will not last very long” Right then I had a real hard time suppressing a good bit of anger. Not at the owner but rather the knuckle headed fools that told him he needed to get an engine because his won’t last. Now contrary to what I said above this owner is very interested in doing it right and not just tearing up a car. So from an owner stand point he’s a good fit. But he is relatively new to rx7’s and as such he doesn’t have the experience to know a line of B.S, when he hears it.
And where does a lot of the BS come from……………….. Drum roll please……………..Knuckle heads doing something stupid and blowing their engine and blaming it on the car. So in the end: yes you are correct a blown engine dosent mean instant death to a 7. BUT a stupidly blown engine (like disabling a warning sensor for low coolant) DOES hurt ALL 7’s.
2….I have, quite a few. They burnt them because they couldn’t get the money out of what they put into it.
3….Aftermarket temp gauges are like hookers. Some are REAL nice some of them you wouldn’t give a nickel for. There have been more than a few people on the forums that have fallen prey to a faulty temp gauge, or a temp gauge that was installed wrong. Actually I remember reading quite a few threads years ago about proper installs, specifically sensor location. And since most people almost never read the archives I normally assume off the bat that their gona do it wrong. Now assuming a good gauge and proper install: then yeah no problems (assuming you actually watch it like a hawk)
4….Point being that a given vehicle is from a given manufacture does in NO WAY degrade a vehicle. Other wise the SC Cobra would “just be an old ford”. ECT Also a given price point in a particular time frame has NO bearing on its impact/value. Case in Point: the Baldwin Motion SC’s could be bought for as little as $1500 in the mid-late 70’s. And what’s the price on a original today?.............................$300-$400k. But even if they were only worth 500 dollars ITS’S A FEAKING BALDWIN MOTION!!!!!!
Just because the RX7 is under valued / under appreciated here in the US doesn’t mean that this isn’t a historically significant car. The RX7 got SO many things right that I can’t understand people that say “AHHH it’s just a cheap Mazda”!!!! They are of course entitled to say it BUT I VEHIMATELY DISAGREE.
