How To Quieten External Fuel Pump?
I'm running a Bosch 044 fuel pump externally to a swirl pot. The pump makes a loud whining noise I've ignored for the last year or so, but would like to quieten it down. Any ideas on what I can do to reduce the noise?
Currently it is mounted straight to the chassis, so first port of call is to put a bit of rubber in to isolate it a bit. After that I'm not sure on the best way of continuing. Anyone tried using foam or a rubber sleeve? or any sort of wrapping? Don't want to run the risk of it overheating, but would like to reduce the noise to a more sensible level.

Just changed the exhaust to a quieter one (102db at cruise was just too much, and I could still clearly hear the fuel pump). The car is stripped out, so no stereo to turn on, never mind up

wow. why is that. track/street car?
when u strip out the interior it gets rid of alot of the sound deadening stuff doesnt it, so u cud really hear everything. u shud carry an ipod in it with some tiny speakers at least then, thatll add only a few ounces (to save that weight) haha

Thoughts ...
seal up any holes in the chassis around the pump and dampen the metal that the pump is connected to and/or surrounded by to prevent the car from becoming a speaker and transmitting noise inside the car
run a boost-a-pump run the pump at lower voltage when not in boost, this will slow it down and should shut it up just a bit
damp the body of the pump and pray the fuel keeps it cool
you already mentioned isolating it from the metal it is attached to

Not happy about the 'praying the fuel keeps it cool' option as the swirl pot is pretty small, so it's not as if it is going to be picking up cool fuel the whole time and I've been through enough engines for one lifetime Have got some sound deadening material, so will see how it performs...

are you running the 044 bosch by itself or are you feeding it to the in tank one? just want to know because im in the process of setting mine up with a fuel cell so i need a stand alone external one.
