I'm 23 and I've had my FD since I was 17. Never really had a big desire to own any other car...

17 in FL. Work at Tennis shop, an exotic car dealership, and sell parts on the side. Personally spent 5k getting it running and back in shape while my dad spent another 5 as his contribution to my first car. I estimate I'll spend about 4k of my own money before college to get it looking/performing how I'd like. Of course projects always go over budget so we'll see.

Old *** thread is an understatment. Everyone's almost 15 years older than whent this thread firststarted. Some of those younger were probably in diapers when this post initiated.

I'm now 50. Bought my first rex when i was 23 (an FB)

I was just wondering how old you guys were and what you guys do for a living. Everyone in my area is older and I was just wondering if that was like everywhere. I was just wondering. Also how much do you guys spend a year on your FD? I live in Maryland.


29 back in college.

Bought the first RX7 8 years ago it's still mostly stock and has cost an absurd amount of money for a slow *** car that pisses me off the same amount to this day.

Still my daily, collecting all the parts to go single currently and then it's time to go job hunting to save up for a daily before high boost.

Have had a girlfriend for 3 years, and she's losing her mind about marriage and kids (marriage is even optional now) so will probably be single soon.

Got the car in 1995 when I was still an engineer, 27 years old in Northern Virginia. Still have it, on the fifth motor but now a corporate patent lawyer in Silicon Valley and 48 years old. I am eyeing that Lamborghini Gallardo (2005 or so) but can't seem to let go of the rex7. The cheapskate in me is fighting hard but then I have what 20 good years left?

Over the years, I probably dumped $30-40K into the car spread out over 19 years.

I believe Howard Coleman is the oldest member at 75 or 76 years old. He retired from Wall Street in his 40s and kept himself busy with rotaries and racing. amazing.

36, HR Manager. No kids. Bought my 28K mile 93FD 3 months ago. Gone from a Fiero GT, to 88 MR2sc, to 93 MR2T, to S2k, to 135i, to RX7.

Currently fixing her up a bit....i'm a bit of a perfectionist at this age. I think i'm becoming obsessed with trying to make this tempremental car reliable. Doing all relaibility mods, then possibly hp mods.

Also, its a beauty to look at , even in my garage.

26, second FD purchased last october. have already put a lot of money into it and it is sitting in the garage waiting for the next job.

i work at an oceanographic instutute doing software development, been here for about a year.

first FD purchased (by parents) at 20, and lasted ~2 years before I did something stupid. Its still around CA but with a salvage title now (although, insurance did discover an accident back in '97 though that carfax/dmv did not find). girlfriend of four years noticed that car before she noticed me, lol

i'm 31. working in the corporate auto manufacturer world.

on my 3rd FD (7th rx7 over the years).

i've spent a substantial amount of time around every generation of rotary car over my years of being an "enthusiast," and the FD guys seem to be the most diverse. the FC guys have a much higher concentration of teenagers and young drifter kids (because the cars are so damn cheap and there are so many of them out there), and the FB/SA guys seem to be quite a bit older and "different," which is hard to explain.

of course the main difference is the income level of the owners, as they match pretty closely with the price of the cars (FD=$$$$$, FC=$$$$, FB=$$$).

what interests me the most about the FD guys is that MOST of them work on their own cars regardless of their salary/income/status... this is very different from the other forums of cars that have similar value (supraforums, for example) and the average FD owner knows a lot more about cars/mechanics/tuning than the other cars guys on other forums, maybe because they are required to know this type of stuff to really enjoy the car and not be completely lost. just an observation, but quite interesting.

I have met Howard a couple times when he rebuilt my motor. I know he has children around my age if not younger from our conversations (I'm 35). But I don't think he's in his 70s. If he is, I hope to age as well as that man. He'll, even if he is in his early to mid 60s, I hope to look as well.

I'll be 50 this year

Bought my 1st FD in 1999 and have owned 200 plus since then (approx 230 as of today)

I have daily driven them, tracked them along with a splash of auto cross the entire time. I have a massive FD addiction.

Currently have 6 (2 are track cars, one is a parts car and the other 3 are daily drivers that are ALWAYS FOR SALE) The most I ever had at once was 11 and 9 were running.

I spend insane money each year feeding my insatiable FD habbit. 1 car is at pipermotorsports getting a cage and diff cooler (est is 5k), just bought some Tein n1 coilovers 2k, will go to the track later this month (1k min), trailer is getting inspected etc (est 250). I had 2 cars worked on at PFS this month (est 3k). So this month alone 11 grand plus.

I sell crack and meth for a living..................JK

I manage a veterinary hospital. If I'm not at the veterinary hosp there's a good chance I'm working on cars/selling parts to feed the addiction.

PS This winter I did not work on cars (almost the entire time, a first in 14 years) and played guitar after a 15 plus year lay off. Plan to do it again this winter. I'm getting older and it's time to relax a bit, will eventually get back into golf but hard to do with work, cars and a fam at this time

I am 63 but feel as young as my fiancée 38 Have owned 4 rx2's coupes and 4 doors. same with rx3's and rx4's. have owned series 1-2-3 4-&5 rx7's & raced many of them as well , I only have 2 now A series 2 1982 rx7 12a turbo I have restored as my road car .And a 1985 series 3 Hurricane rx7 with a 20b engine ,is still being rebuilt at moment, 16 years building this car and about another 1 to 2 years to go

I think it goes beyond FD, it's a rotary thing. Very eccentric (no pun intended hehe) folks gravitate toward the rotary and they stay there because they don't belong anywhere else LOL.

28 wife and a baby girl 2 month old auto instructor. I got my 93 fd 2 years ago drive it for two weeks and then I went in the garage to fix some thing I did not like. Some things turned into more thing and there it still sits new body harness, dash, engine harness, battery harness, blitz intercooler, single etc etc there may be something wrong with cause i cant leave well enough alone I think I need help lol

You can pick a 2005 Gallardo for anywhere between $70K and 110K so it isn't crazy money when 2014 GTR is $110K.

At this point, the kids college funds are fully funded but the moment one of them gets a full scholarship, I'm picking up a Gallardo or may be a Ferrari F360. I like the 360 but they are not that reliable and parts are crazy expensive. I know that the Lambo is 50% Audi and therefore should be more reliable.

At the moment, my engine lost compression (it was getting harder and harder to start when hot) so I'm preparing to pull the engine and install the Howard Coleman built engine.
