Let's see, I was 35 when this thread was started 
I started out with an '80 1st gen in college, bought an '87 TII when I graduated, and finally bought a '93 in 2007. I paid an obscene amount to others to rebuild the mechanicals and exterior because I don't have the time (or much skill) to do it myself. I'm more of a sports car driver, not a sports car mechanic, although I can handle the basic bolt-on modifications.
And you kids, stay off of my lawn (although this reminds me of a night in 1989 riding shotgun in a friends' Porsche 944 going too fast on a wet road....)

Pushing 42, entrepreneur / lazy ***. Got my 7 new back in 95 & still lovin it. Lost track how much I spent after all those years, but I'm sure my significant other is keeping track though.

I'm 25 and recently left my job in financing energy projects for a finance position at JetBlue.
Got my dad's old 82 base model when i was 16 (it was rotten and rusted out)
Bought 2 more when I was 16 as parts cars to patch and fix up my dads old one.
one was an 83 base, the other was an 81 gsl.
The 83 actually ran well, but had rotten rocker panels, i did a little bondo work for the first time and made it look not too bad, but probably horrible by my standards today. So I drove that for 2 years in highschool, until the suspension arm that runs from behind the seat to the axle broke, so my whole axle would move while i accelerated haha, not safe.
The 81 was in better shape than my dads, so i started fixing up that. turned into a complete rebuild, S5 turbo, weber carb, changed the whole interior out from burgundy to black, full suspension build. All I really had left to do was body work, paint, and plumb in the exhaust and turbo piping. Then I went to school and its been sitting for about 5 years now
When I get my own house and garage it will be back if its not rotten from sitting under a tarp in NY at my parents house for so long. (i removed all the good parts haha so the carb and turbo and custom manifolds won't be ruined, the car was only 100bucks haha) Kind of depressing to think about though, all my summer jobs during highschool funded it and i never finished it. But its not a complete loss, because those years of learning on something cheap helped me prepare for the next paragraph.
Got my 94 after i got a real job after school last year. Came with a bad engine, but lots of mods, built it up over the winter, now its just waiting to get tuned, 500whp on pump club here I come. The exterior needs some work, but that can wait for winter.

just turned 23 last week have had my fd since 18 and had a first and second gen when I was 16-17 just broke the $50k mark on the fd have paid for and done everything myself no trustfund kid here

26, and have spent over $16k on the car in the last 4 years. So im averaging $4k/year. I am a student at North Dakota State University however I own my own business and just started doing some internships. The internships pay for the bills and my business funds my car.

work as a senior computer tech during the days, and bartender in the weekends.
Have the following cars as of now:
Dailydriver: Mitsu spacewagon. Beat up old banger with good room to transport stuff if needed, it just keeps going! 255 000 km and still going, on original clutch!!
Summercar: 1969 VW beetle roadster( convertible). Black leather interiør, yellow paintjob, lowered, on retro rims.
Cruiser: 1990 Eunos E.CCS 20B. light adjustment in boost. puts down around 380 hp, sitting on 18" rims.
Sportscar: 1993 FD, 99spec look(aprox), CF hood, 18" rims and all the goodies upgraded in the enginebay and drivetrain. Aiming for 400+s WHP with the BNRs and new engine soon to go in.
Projectcar: 1992 Mazda Protege(323F), the one with popuplights, dont think you got that model over there. Bone stock look, sunbleached red paintjob, steelrims(widened), all bushes in alu or poly, group A asphalt rally setup, rx7 brakes, celica gearbox, 3" from turbo to a 1,6 litre backbox with 1,6 pipe at the end(3" into box, and 3" out of the bottom of the box) to keep that bone stock look + + ++ a ton of other goodies. stroked to to litre engine, Mazda group A rallyturbo, full custom turboengine.. Going for around 500whp.

31 next month & I'm disabled, as in roll deep in a wheelchair & don't do jack **** except dream about what I'd do with my cars & hot chicks if I had some real moneiz. 
Finally snagged my first FD a few weeks ago after being a lifetime Mazda owner. Most of the mechanicals were already installed & tuned by rx7.com, just need to pimp up the rattly *** interior, do some subtle exterior mods & keep'r in check.. then back to my original plan of supercharging the Miata! (providing the FD doesn't blow up first or somthin 
)

I'm 21...yeah right . I'm 34, been in the Navy for 16 years as an Aviation Ordnance Technician. Got my first FD back in 2002 (got stolen), second FD 2002, third in 2004 and my fourth and current one in 2010.

Currently 46. Started my rotary experience with a 1973 Mazda RX-2 in high school. It got upgraded with a Racing Beat header, Jacobs electronic ignition, a performance clutch, a new rear pumpkin and wheels and tires. Both my best friends also had RX-2's so we used to tear up Speedway in Tucson AZ on weekends. Imagine (3) RX-2's driving side-by-side - one red, one white and one blue down the main drag.
Fell in love with the FD when it came out in 93, but had just recently gotten married and was still paying off college loans so I could not justify buying a $35,000 car.
My FD experiences:
- '93 BB R-1: purchased 2004. Sold it in 2007.
- '93 SSM red interior: complete part out 2004-2006
- '93 VR Touring: purchased from owner following small engine fire under UIM; repaired damage, sold in 2007
- '93 VR Base: purchased from memphisraines following suspension damage (control arms, struts and steering rack); repaired with parts from SSM parts car, sold back to memphisraines; 2007/8?
- '93 VR Base, 50k miles: purchased 5/2010; being returned to stock in advance of sale
- '93 VR R-1, 26k miles, 3rd owner: purchased 10/2010; collector car
- '93 CYM R-1, 61k miles, 3rd owner; purchased 10/2010; collector car
The best part about my last two FD's is that I paid less for both than I would have for the cost of a new one in 1993 - and my wife thought that was a great deal. Even better, she likes to cruise driving the CYM while I drive the VR.
Lost track on how much I have spent. And I agree the cars make you feel younger.

My VR R1 track car (it's a magical car) which I've owned since 2006 the longest I've kept one. James Landry's old car.......THANKS AGAIN JAMES!!!!!!
I recently bought a 997 GT3 RS and it's ALMOST as fun to drive
. I don't think many owners appreciate how incredible this car is. Do yourself a favor and take it to the track and you'll absolutely fall in love with it. Buy a second one as a collector because it's the only investment I believe in at this time.

19, but got it when i was 18. Eng student at the university of alberta.
This is only the first year i've really had it but so far 1k on maintenance stuff, and about 5ish k on fun things.
People say its a waste of money but if it's all worth it to you, whats it matter?

Im 24, turning 25 in just under 2 weeks. I have had my FD for 3-4 years now.
I sell engineering supplies (tools, fasteners, lubes, anything engineering etc etc)
I guess im in the lower end on what i spend on my FD. Its very reliable. It gets regular oil / filter /coolant / plug changes and thats about it.

im 21. I have had my baby (well right now its a piece of **** killing me.. haha) since last year. we have had our ups and down but hopefully after i do this new engine drop in, which everyone might have me for, it will be running better than new.
