I just recently turn 25. Full-time graphic and web designer. Bought my FD back in Spring '05. So far, spent about $5-6K first year or two in just upkeep, beginner mods, and general wear-and-tear.

Holy crap! Did anybody else pick up on this? Traded a ZR1 for an FD? Man, I bet the Mazda dealership closed early that day in 93'. It's cool you still have the FD.

  • 1yr as a car audio installer
  • 5 yrs in the Marines as a component level airborne electronic warfare systems tech (basically fixing IR, mech chaff, RF jamming systems for jets and helos) - a little time spent behind a 50 cal.
  • 3 yrs as home automation and high-end stereo and home theatre designer/installer/programmer.
  • Finishing degrees in Finance/Economics moving onto MBA/IP Law.
  • My life goal is to reduce international dependence on fossil fuels and curb global warming through the proliferation of innovative technologies and politically and economically feasible international cooperation.
  • RX-7 Junkie
I could have bought an 08 Z06 for what I've spent.

Well, I guess I just couldn't resist posting on this one. I'm 62, and a retired semiconductor company exec.

Bought my first 3rd Gen. brand new in '93 and had it 'till a guy totaled it 2 years ago. During that time, with the frequent help of this forum, I learned a lot more about fixing the car than I'd ever planned to need! Despite all that, I absolutely loved the car.

Bought another '93, (mostly stock), about 18 months ago and spent about $3K and vast amounts of time fixing multiple suspension, engine, electrical, oil leak and reliability issues. Now running great and I'm in love all over again! Also have a 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo. Great machine, but the RX is still the absolute fun car.

Any other really old farts on here?

Was 28 when i got my first RX-7. Now 51, Naval Architect, Shipbuilding exec. FD is still my favorite car. Money spent on high maintenance, cosmetic upgrades, performance upgrades, and two divorces settlements to keep her in shape … Priceless
