Therefore, hopefully, you do it because you want a faster and or different looking car and are willing to pay for it. Also, the costs of doing almost any group of mods is known or can be quickly figured out. I can tell you that there are several people who have spent more than $75,000 on their cars, and several more who are currently spending more than that right now. The FD is like drugs. You buy a dime bag (remember... "Old Dude".) and soon you want a kilo...

You are right about doing a search. I could hunt around and add up numbers and see what other have done. The problem is this takes a lo of time. Also people have redone things to the car and have not posted pricing. If I took all this time to read what other have spent I would have no time to finish my car.

I have spent the money on my car to get the way I want. I also know that I will probably spend about another $15k on the car. I also understand that I will have to add about 15% to that when I am done.

Many people for get to list parts like I did as well.

MS short shifter
Fuel rail kit
block off plates

Car coast = $21000 with 13k miles on car.

Having the FD of your dreams priceless.

Its bad when its easier to tell the stock parts. 2 doors back quarters rear bumper and tail lights, frame and gas tank. most of the interior, thats about it. And i dont want to know how much money, skin and blood. Oh cant forget tears lots of them.

Boat ticket : 1340$

import fees: 450$
duty: 350$
insurance: 220$
service fees: 2550$
GST: 800$

Oh well, importing costs a lot, but a VERY CLEAN FD costs about 4000$ - 7000$ in japan

Along with Gmonsen, I have wondered what the point of these threads are.

Maybe:

1) "Mine is bigger than yours." That's always a favorite.

2) Justification to spouse/significant other. "See what these guys are spending? The $$ I have spent is nothing!"

3) "Geez, I'm way behind, look what these guys have spent!". A frenzied storm of impulsive online FD aftermarket parts spending ensues. FDNewbie, Gotham Racing, Racing Beat, etc. are all very happy.

Point #3 leads to the following thread:

"What parts do you have in your garage waiting to be installed?"

^I agree completely, which is why you'll find the people who have spent the most no longer disclose their dollar amounts. It can easily be figured out based on their parts lists so these threads don't really do anything aside from the points you already listed.

Good point. I am in the same boat.

This is why I posted this question. I also did it to get an idea of how much people are spending for the love for this car. Of course I can get an idea by searching, but I wanted to hear for people directly.

As far as a measuring tool, this is no the point. If that is what I wanted to do I would build my car to win car shows. Why have a car show and give awards for best this and that? So the person who wins can hold up a bigger trophy of the
2nd 3rd place wins. What the point?

Why do people on this forum post pics of what they have done to there car? To share what they have done? Or is it to show what they have done and show others I am better then you because I have this on my car and you don't? No I think people do this to share with fell FD owners what there vision is of the car they own.

If you do not want to post what you spent the that is fine. Just don't post at all. Let the rest of us get the measuring tape out and have fun.

For the people that have had a positive post I thank you. This will allow for new owners see what it takes to set this cars up correctly and what kind of dedication these cars require. I am sure that many of you still have items for your car or will change the car looks and dump another $$100k in the car. Keep up the good job and lets keep these cars looking and running nice.

I added fuel pump 110, ebay fabbed myself intercooler piping for 85, koyo radiator 320, did body work myself and paid friend 800 for complete repaint, 400 for 19 inch wheels and tires, 1600cc injectors 120
So far 9835. Still need secondary pump and regulator and fittings...around 460 then have it tuned for around 200. Also need good coilover around 750 Total investment 11,245 with hopefully over 400hp and looking pretty good. Pretty good deal I think.

It's threads like this that make me learn patience and how to research for less expensive ways to get what I want. I could never justify spending the money some of you guys are spending. For the amount of money some of you guys are droping on the Fd, one could have gone 20b.

I paid $13,500 for my 94 touring back in Jan 2003 with 65k.
Additions during this past 5 yr time period.

$400.00 ebay stage 3 clutch.
$350.00 pillow *****
$150.00 boost gauge
$330.00 my own put together water injection
$20.00 PS pulley that I broke
$120.00 solid trailing arm bushings
$150.00 solid diff bushings
$80.00 shitty ebay short shifter
$10.00 for metal to reinforce my PPF
$0.00 for labor as I do my own ****.

Now I do have numerious parts I've bought that have yet to be installed.

$3700.00 for my unblown 20b "D'series engine bought back in May 2003.
$150.00 for 3 9.7 compression rotors
$1400.00 for misc body parts
$20.00 in metal to make my own 20b subframe. Huge cost savings!
$0.00 used left over metal from PPF modification to make tranny and diff mounts.
$1300.00 Brand new Haltech e11 w/harness
$120.00 Brand new aluminum radiator. Larger than Koyo or Fluidine
$500.00 remaining b4 20b is ready to fire up.
$1000.00 for other misc ****.

Selling parts from the blown 13brew pays for a ton of ****. One can save huge amounts of money when you do your own fab work.

A rough average per year for our near-stock '94 (bought new) for maintenance, parts, etc. works out to about $950+. That's spread over 13.5 years and 93 K miles, and does not include recent work at the dealer to replace clutch, engine seals and pan & pan gasket, which came to $1840.
