How much is in your FD3S?

I thought I would try and get an Idea of what people are spending.

I know I have spent a ton of money on my car and I have not been able to work on it for the last three months.

Turbo kit = $3000
Exhaust = $ 1050. Greddy Ti = $700 new used JDM exhaust $350
RE30's = $ 2100
PFC & commander = $700
Steering colum boost guage holder = $110
Boost gauge = $ 100 ?
Mid pipe used = $75 ?
V-mount kit (complete with bat tray and intake) = $2300?

This is what I remember of the top of my head. Something is wrong here.

The love for a FD.

Is this counting the price of the car? If not I can see myself heading this way as well.

Hmm lets see...

1993 MB FD with 44k miles~ 14k
After taxes ~ 450$
Intake & Catback ~ 650$

Part II Slick roads, driving fatigue = front end collision
Car pronounced totaled ~ Me having a total ridiculous cling to my car and being stubborn. 1 year of hunting parts including frame rails from an 02 spirit R and building it up from the ground up.
Parts ~ 5500$ (including kouki turns and custom HID's)
Labor ~ 4000$ Thanks to a friend of mine with a supra MKIII who hooked me up with paint and everything.
Downpipe 100$
Samco rad and intercooler silcon hoses ~ 125$
Knightsports EBS + FCFD ~ 350$
R1 Lip ~ 65$
Tien S tech springs ~ 150$
Feed type II spoiler painted and all ~ 500$ (Never installed decided to go wingless)
Running a midpipe thinking it would creep with the EBS III set at 7psi resulting in a blown apex seal to be priced up by Rich!

Rebuild with street and ECU and fuel pump my guess anywhere from 3-5000$

Keep in mind I'm a college student and this was my DD ~ Thank god for cheap honda's lol

Unfortunately the FD is one of the very few cars that you can customize literally every part that the car has. The FD is only limited by ones mind and unfortunately budget as well

If you want to get a sense of how many expensive parts are still available for this car, go to www.japanparts.com. Anyone for a $20k sequential transmission?

I paid 18K for my FD back on Feb 20, 1999, two days before my 20th birthday. It had 38K on the clock and it was stock except for a huge $5K stereo and heavy OZ Monte Carlo wheels in stock sizes. I've spent around $20-25K in mods over the years, including money spent a few engines. If I get more than $15K for the car now, I'll be happy.

I recently put together a list of everything I plan on doing to my next car, a C6 Z06. I'm already at over $15K in mods including 19/20" wheels/tires. It'll be around $10K to get me to the magical 600rwhp mark with big brakes and coilovers/swaybars. The good thing is once I do all of this, I'm pretty much done with the car!

Whew, keeping it on the cheap...

$12K for car
$7K in engine rebuild, hose replacements, AST, clutch, flywheel, dyno time...
$2K in tuning electronics

So far, just over $21,000 in about a year on a teacher's salary.

And it runs canyons every weekend.

I can see myself dropping in about $21K more before I start to question where I'm going with all this.

Needs:

Suspension
Seats
Minor body work (two dents on the hood)
A fresh tune
Wheels
Tires
Exhaust
WG porting
BNR turbos
...

I wonder why want to talk about it at all, since most all the money put into these cars is lost on selling them. Therefore, hopefully, you do it because you want a faster and or different looking car and are willing to pay for it. Also, the costs of doing almost any group of mods is known or can be quickly figured out. I can tell you that there are several people who have spent more than $75,000 on their cars, and several more who are currently spending more than that right now. The FD is like drugs.
