How much freon (r134a) does the FD take?
I need to know the freon capacity of the air conditioning system in an fd. I do not want to overfill the system and cause costly problems. Anyone know? I have two 12 oz cans in there so far (it was empty) and it is freezing when the car is moving but gets warmer when idling. Do I need to add more r134 a?

The only safe way to fill any AC system is to use the very cheap pressure gauge available for 134a systems. The gauge attaches to the low pressure fill fitting. The gauge is available from Autozone, PepBoys, WalMart whatever for under $20. Fill the system to the top of the green range.

95 FD = R134a
I just did mine and I over filled it. I had to let some out. I believe I did 2 and a half cans maybe 14 to 16oz not tottally sure. It's only supposed to be 2 cans.

r134a doesn't cool as well as r12. Its normal for it to not be as cold at idle. I also did the retrofit. I have a problem with my compressor not wanting to stay on at highway speeds. I'm still trying to fi the problem.

It's not supposed to be anywhere near that much. 1 lb, or 12.2 ounces. At least that's the capacity for my R1. There should be a label under your hood that will tell you.
I was told that the best home-brew way to tell when you're full is to add refrigerant slowly until the low pressure line (the bigger one) _just_ starts to collect condensation. If you keep going, it will overfill..
By the way.. I just filled the car with almost 1 can of Freeze-12 from a complete discharge and it works great.

You also have a glass eye that will tell you wether it's full or not. It's by your IC. If you see bubbles in the coolant system through the glass eye it's not full yet. Mine wasn't full till both cans were empty. I have never heard of an A/C system only taking 1 12 oz can. Coudln't find the sticker, wouldn't be any use anyways as you are supposed to put less R134a in than R12.

I was charged for two cans. I'd have to look at my receipt to see if he used 2lbs or not. He also replaced a valve stem or something that leaked.
'93-'94.5 = R12
'94.5-'95 = 134 (depends when your '94 was built)
Mine is a '94 and uses the new stuff. There should be something (metal label) on the firewall that tells you.
Wallmart sells everything you need (except the knowledge) to do it. They even have the valve stems to convert your system. You need to buy the kit with the guage so you don't overfill it. My bro-in-law (honda mech') said you need to empty the old stuff before you fill with new and that's where the license thing come in to legaly get rid of the old stuff. I don't know for sure if you have to or not. You may also want to check for leaks and replace the valve stem thing.
