How much does a NEW air pump cost?
My air pump just quit on me, it's running as if I unplugged it, the clutch is disengaged and it's running rich at idle. It is plugged in, and was working fine earlier today, now it idles rough and small animals die if they get too close to the exhaust. But, anyhow, does anyone know how much the dealer should charge so I don't get taken for a ride at my mazduh dealer. Thanks

Stay away from the Mazda Dealer, trust me. I had mine go out awhile back. Gues how much they wanted? $$$$$950.00 (Ouch), just for the airpump itself. No labor nothing! I ended up taking it a mazda specialist and got it done for $400.00 including labor. I got a used one of course. Now if i would of known better like i know now (too late) i would buy a used air pump from a low mileage car thru some rotorheads on partstrader.com for like $50.00 and then take it to a specialist for the labor (60-100 bucks), save you a bunch of money. So hope this helps. Yes you could unplug it for now until you get it fixed. The mechanic i took it too said it was okay, air pump is just an emission pump. Your car might run alittle crappy but it'll be alright till you get a new one.

Well, since you have a hi-flo cat, running without the air pump is not a good thing... You'll eventually start to clog it up..
Yes, the Mazda dealerships will charge around $1000 for a new air pump. Just check for a used one. Even if it fails early, you can buy quite a few used ones for the price of a new one from Mazda.

The best and the least expensive solution is to remove the air pump, which will reduce the weight of your car by 15pounds. Also, get yourself a midpipe and the GReddy Pulley set and you will end up with a lot more HP. :1party:

Checked www.parts.com. Airpump for '93 FD $856.94. You're probably better off bying a used one.
