Old thread. I say the fewer RX-7's out there the better. It makes my car more rare and that's a good thing.

I just hope Mazda doesn't come out with another RX-7 later. I would be very upset and may have to sell it. Or it would be so ugly I'd still keep it, but be offended that they call it an RX-7.

I've seen 2 (possibly more) in Greensboro including mine. we both have Montego Blue FD's. I saw a Sliver one from Virginia on the Highway. We played Tag for awhile until my exit came up.

It is not everyday I see another FD and get to play with it. So I was alittle excited about it I think another guy named Garret or Grant ownes one?

In Reidsville I saw a CYM but it had its fenders and front bumper off? It was cruising around . Oh well.

So sad. At least I own 2 rare cars! '93 MB FD and a **March of 1978 RX-7 GS** with 5 speed, sunroof, wider rims, vinyl Interior.

All these options were for the later '79 and '80's model only. So my '78 is super rare.

I've probably only seen about 12 FD's in my lifetime.

.... and I've never driven one.

There are more than that within 20 mile of my house. There were like 18k made for the US market. I would guess more then half see time on the road or track.

there were less than 14,000: http://www.turborx7.com/rx7prodinfo.htm

i've seen extremely few FD's. that's why i'm flying out to texas to buy mine and ship it back to georgia, it's one of the few stock ones i've seen in decent condition for sale. i've never seen more than a handful in any place i've lived (california, idaho, texas, n. carolina, and georgia... i'm in the military, i move around a lot).

If you guys really wanna know how many FD's are left, we still need some help with the donations. $295 so far, $205 left to go. Then this thread will have a definite answer.

A list of the total number of FD's currently registered in each state, and it will be organized by year (93,94,95) This is not a list of VIN's, its just the total number in each state. The information is gathered by an automotive statistics company, R.L. Polk & Co. They have access to each states DMV to get this info. $500 is their minimum charge for a data request, and thats what I was quoted for them to generate this kind of report.

Visit the sticky at the top of the section to view more info on it.

I can't wait for this to happen Always was curious....I would also be up for a donation each year for an updated report....and I do think a poster or something of that nature with the info would be neat...just my .02 cents...bump

wow! It blows my mind that I have 1 or 23 cars in the US. The FD has great value. I'm sure most of you guys know that a car isn't an investment. These cars hold their value better than most anyway. Mine actually blue books the same amount that I paid for it.
I know of several FDs in my area from the internet, but I've only seen one of them in person. There seems to be a lot of them in Tulsa.

I saw a montego blue rx7 at the local Mazda dealer getting worked on when I stopped in to get some touch up paint. I also saw a silver one pull up to a 4way stop the same time i did.

So including mine I know of 3 in the Lehigh Valley (2 MB, 1 SS)

The FD seems like an endangered species. I live in Los Angeles and see more Lambos Lotuses & Ferraris than i do FDs. Im just fortunate to own one.

This may have been mentioned before, I'm not going to sort through the 9 pages or so that are in this thread, but this will only count the number of registered FD's. There are many track use only FD's out there that are unregistered. Also unregistered vehicles in garages waiting for repairs to return them to the street.

You won't get an accurate number with the data you're paying for. The only thing you'll know is that there aren't less than this number.

I understand that and consider it a given. Thats going to happen with every sports car and I dont think most people are concerned with the number of FD's on the track or the ones that have been sitting in someones garage for years. The list is gonna show how many we'll actually see out on the road. I'm not gonna see a track car driven through my town and I'm not gonna see someone pushing a shell down main street.

I didnt start this thead, and have jumped in at the end to get support for some donations. There's a sticky at the top that discusses the intentions of what we're trying to do. Counting track cars and unregistered project cars is not in the intentions. With that said, I'll have to disagree with you in that we will be getting an accurate number with the data that many are paying for. If I had said "this list will show exactly how many FD's are left", I'd be misleading people. But I have made it clear that this is only finding the number of currently registered FD's.
