So if there are only 3,300 FD's left what happend to all of them? I would think that there would be more than that still left.

It could be at a junk yard or been recycled.

ObliqueFD, why would you think that. Tons have been wrecked. Some are track cars that wouldn't be registered. The guy I bought mine from said he talked to 2 or 3 guys who buy them for the track, wreck em or blow engines and then use or sell the parts. The one guy had been through something like 10 cars. Not to mention how some people have trashed these cars. How many cars are long term projects sitting in someones garage for 4 years with a big hole in the engine bay. That barely counts as an FD you could see on the street. I don't see there being anyway there are more 3500 on the street and perhaps 400 or 500 purpose built race cars--no registration. God knows though how many are in varying states of disrepair without registration, that are probably going to parted or scrapped eventually. What a waste. Compare that to Porsche who brags (at least a few years ago) that something like 65% of all cars they have EVER built are still registered.

if you assume a 5% yearly wreckage rate then there's about 8309 FDs left. you think 5% is too high/low?

7% drops the number to 6717

It is a sad topic, but since I've joined this forum I've seen countless "totalled my FD" threads. The bright side is if we could get a solid verified number it would definetly bring the value up when selling the car.

Interesting.... I can see only 3500 left that registerd. I have seen about 15 in the Federal Way, Seattle to Bellingham area in Washington St. and thats about a 130 mile area. They are diffinetly rare. I have one of 430 witch I think is not bad. But thin again I am also just happy to own one.

The hard numbers on running FD's would be nice to have. And I wander how many of those are worth owning I have seen alot of flat out trashed to the max FD's (lord have mercy on those bastards, I hope they burn). To kill a peace of art like a FD is only justifiable by death.

ttb, I think a 5-7% totalled rate per year makes sense, but what about fires, grenaded engines, expensive turbo repairs and other issues we as enthusiasts see lots of, but we repair. These things cause the less enthusiastic to part out the car or send it to the boneyard.

BTW, what is the deal with the one Pearly white car, versus the rest of the white Fds being chaste white. Someone add something not so chaste to that white paint?

I always thought cars decreased in value as they grow older. Don't get me wrong, the FD is surely in the same category of being a "work of art" like Superman Issue #1 or something. But just don't see cars growing in value as a comic book or something.

Hehe, I'm hanging onto Magic: The Gathering cards, hope they'll be worth something later on. I got some cards in 1995 that were worth $4-5 and the last time I checked, they were still worth $4-5.

The 'popular' cars and trucks EACH sell over 240,000 units annually in the States alone. Ford and Chevy pickups sell over 500,000 units combined, annually.
Annually.......!

Puts it all in perspective, doesn't it? The total imported to the U.S. (or was it North America?) was between 13,800 and 15,000 depending on what figures you use.
The total FD import over the 3 model years is only about 6% of ONE of the popular cars for ONE year!

This one of the reasons we all cringe when someone totals one of these cars. And why some get irate if it is just some punk that is like, "Dude...so I was, like racin' this Civic and you know..we were doin' like 130 on this side street when this kid ran out chasin his cat and I had to swerve and hit this tree, man...it was sick! My car is like...you know...in pieces...but Hey, I'm okay and lookin' to get another one of these badass cars....but this time I'm gonna mod it up you know and get like 500 RWHP and lower it and put some 20s on it....you know...."

Looks like Silver Stone is the rarest 94/95 color, other than the Pearly White with 1 made.

I guess that's why it was so hard to find a SS 94 Touring.

The CYM is still the color to have..........I'm still lusting after Damians track car.

2-Rotor, thanks for the clarification on the pearly white. Its odd to see a factory color with only 1 car painted that color.

I'm a little confused...are those statistics saying there was only ONE pearl white RX-7 produced?

Well I have seen a few at Cal Poly Pomona, and I have driven past a house in Clairmont that has about 2-3 3rd gens and couple of 2nd gens and some first gens. Now thats a rotary family but I have never stopped to talk to them.

More on Pearl White...

I have seen a pearl white RX-7 at a dealership in Durham, NC; with a gold package (not for sale, at the service dept). The paint and pin striping exhibited normal wear for a 93/94 vehicle. It's possible that it had been painted, but being that this was 6-7 years ago (the car being fairly new), I doubt it.

I know there are at least a couple people on this board who say they have pearl white paint; suggesting perhaps the fore mentioned statistics are incorrect.
