What is the REAL purpose or intent of this thread? We have people that are original owners of 7s here. Then again, we have 1st and 2nd gen owners who have bought their cars brand new too.
So what is the point of this thread?

6 months of which 5 1/2 months included the car under repair/repaint. It seems this process is never over as I want to further the restoration on a car with 40K original miles.
My first FD was sold in late 1994 when my 3rd child came along. Owning an FD now means something completely different: excape from two teenagers, a 10 year old, etc-for the few moments of a turbo charged rush.

Got mine December 3, 1992 from the Mazda Regional Office. It was supposed to be used by visiting Mazda bigwigs while they roamed through Houston. It was the car which carried the Houston Mayor in the 1992 Foley's Thanksgiving Day Parade in Houston.
We wanted a VR with black leather and touring package, and this was the only one Mazda could find for us in the US at that time.
I still have it and drive it every day, although it only has about 61,000 original miles on it.... and I'll drive it till I die or till I turn it over to my now 10 year old son when he is 16.
BTW... anyone have a passenger side headlight cover in VR that they want to sell...

I wasn't the first owner, had 4,000 miles on it (93 Touring bought in late 93 or early 94). My wife at the time was out of town and I traded my Miata in. Cost then $24,500. I tend to agree with Mr. Stock, don't buy first year production. I will keep indefinately, it is too much fun to drive and it has classic lines.

I've had mine just over 3 1/2 years, and its not going anywhere. I was close to selling it about a year ago until I realized that would have been a big mistake. And slapped some sense into myself.

What I meant was that I don't think that I would ever be as excited about a car to buy it the very first year.

I have owned my R1 since May 1993.
It was the first time that I bought a car in its first year of production and it will probably be the last.

Bought a '93 r1 in "99, but only kept it for three months because some guy offered me three grand more than I had just paid. Tried a BMW 850 (think the maintenance on an fd is bad, try owning one of these) and then an Acura NSX (zero maintenance, but really expensive to make faster). Had my newest '93 only since October and it has been in the shop since being made faster and hopefully more reliable. Plan to keep it for years.
