The FD has what the French call a certain... I don't know what. I think it was the attention to detail and passion of the designers when it was being created? The looks are timeless, the interior is completely driver oriented, the motor is smooth as butter, the car is light and has good power (even stock), the handling is ******* amazing, and the car is controllable but still challenges you. It's simple, mechanical, not controlled by a super computer, and wants more power and sticker tires. It's a drivers car, and when I'm behind the wheel I neither notice or care that I'm driving a car from the early 90's. Sure the reliability sucks, it drinks fuel, its always breaking down, it eats motors for lunch, and costs a ton of money to maintain and upgrade .... but something about the car, which I still can't put my finger on, keeps drawing me back in to spend more money, keep fixing it, keep pushing the boundaries of the FD (tuning and driving wise).

I've had one for 10 years at this point, now I've got two, and a number of them have been with the car in/out of actually running. This is the bitchy girlfriend of cars that you can't break up with even though logically and rationally it's the right thing to do. It's sucked me in to the point of no return. Now I'm literally making parts for the damn thing, to support my desire to put more into the car and push it further... I feel like I didn't find the FD, it found me.

Something about the FD is greater than the sum of it's parts, which is NOT the case for most other cars out there. But then, I guess I'm not like most other people. It's got to be for you, and you'll know if it is... best way I can put it. To the OP... how do I stay dedicated... I don't have to, because it doesn't feel like work sticking with it. On a side note if you ever find a lady that fits the above description, you should probably stick with her.

Cheers,
Heath

I hear that man. I even tried to lower my spending on food. Trying to build up 2 FDs isn't a smart thing to do in my situation but something in me keeps pushing me forward.

I have an unhealthy relationship with mine. She seems to be my rebound girl everytime I break up with a girlfriend. I go months neglecting her, then BAM she's my best friend again.

My RX-7 just lost its garage space to my diablo. Quite frankly the diablo is more fun to drive. I mean that in the handling sense. It's a raw uncompromising vehicle as well.

I just can't separate with rexxy. I think she needs some major tuning and suspension work. The steering is so sloppy it's not fun to drive.

I also ran into the "ignorance is bliss" conundrum. When you have no idea how it works, it's magic. I went single and did everything myself including tuning. The car is amazing except I know all of the weak points and think of its frailty when driving it.

Still, great problems to have.

Rx7's are expensive? Any of you guys have kids? Day car and child education fund is easy $12K++ a year each kid. Canuck dollars!

I tried moving away from the rotary scene. Didn't last long. I also have a fetish for collecting engines. LOL

Staying dedicated is very easy. I go in knowing that I now posses my dream car. It is a unique car developed in an era that will never be revisited. It's a true drivers car. It's the complete package. The ability to develop breath taking power. Handling that engages the driver and outperforms some of the worlds best. A body that makes you turn around and gaze every time you walk away from it. It's a FD.

I will always own one.

Eff the 90s. The FD, NSX, m3 and maybe a few others.

Horsepower wars took it to a new level.

GTR
C5 c6
New GT3 .2 is basically a race car
Viper comp
STI
EVO
M3 and lotuses w/ power
S2k
Hell even the new mustang is no joke/camaro.......yada yada
etc....

The electronic nannies suck but the cars are simply BAD TO THE BONE!!!! 2000 and beyond is quite simply the greatest time for cars in the history of mankind

I have this discussion with my co workers all the time. The cars made in the last 10 years are just amazing and only getting faster and "better".

I used to own FDs because they were the best performance car I could afford. I can now afford much nicer cars but still prefer the FD. I pull it out of the garage more often than the TRex when I don't have daddy duties. Say what you want Fritz but we know what you prefer on the track.

The S2000 IMO is very close to a modern day FD... except its reliable . It is a no frills sports car. I had mine for a little over 2 years, it served me DD duties but I still had fun modifying it. Turbo and probably ~300whp. Its agile, fun, affordable. I just wish they made them in coupes, as Im just not a convertible guy. Probably had the top down less than a dozen times in those years of ownership. I really do love those cars.

Theres a ton of great cars, and there are a ton of cars that are "better" than the FD is almost every objective category. But, theres something about the FD that just gets inside you, and stirs emotions that , at least for me, no other car has done yet. Id love to get a C6Z, but I know that even though its an amazing machine, it will probably be something I would buy, play with for a few years, and then sell. My FD Ill keep forever.
