HID Conversions Expected Life: 2-3 Years??

Hey guys...amidst the flurry of activity to purchase HID conversions, I just ran across a somewhat alarming situation with my McCulloch HID kit that I received as a gift about 2 years ago. My headlight stopped working, and after some troubleshooting, I narrowed it down to the ballast. Upon e-mailing customer support at XenonPros.com, I received a reply saying that the ballasts usually last for 2-3 years!

Does anybody know if other kits have this same short life expectancy? I purchased a replacement ballast for $130, but now I'm wondering if I'm prepared to shell out $260 to replace the two ballasts every 2-3 years.

Frankly, I find it appalling that all these companies tout how the bulbs are supposed to last "3 times longer than halogens" and are designed to "outlast your car", but nobody mentions the life expectancy of the ballasts!
