i recently have been saving writeups on how-to's and wat not. mahjik said he doesnt know wat to do?? like you said, the links and pictures quickly expire. mahjik said there really isnt anything permanent that can be done. we just have to keep saving the links so when it needs to be renewed or redone theres going to be links to replace the bad ones.
i think the solution would be for rx7club or an rx7club member to make a website that contains sublinks to pages with info on certain rx7 related subjects. <-sorry if that makes no sense
exapmle: http://www.rx7.org/Robinette/boost_avc_r_install.htm

I've been saying it for YEARS...we really need to start archiving this stuff. We've lost sooo much, especially *invaluable* writeups w/ pics. And the few writeups that still remain...have no pics lol. If we don't get the ball rolling on this, there will be nothing left to archive but "take it to a rotary specialist..."

I'm in the final stages of finishing up my new & improved website, which will eventually have a FULL database of virtually every FD-specific part available in Japan (I say "will" because we'll be adding onto the database as we go along). I got MORE than enough storage space, and would be MORE than happy to have a technical & archive page, full of How-To writeups and other Tech Info. I'd also like to see if we can get a "3rd Gen Performance Records Registry" going, which can eventually evolve into an RX-7 (or even simply a rotary-powered) Performance Records Registry (see this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?p=4086254).
Point being, there's a LOT to be done...IF someone's willing to do the work. And by that I mean assigning out writeups, for example, to competent forum members who are going to do that mod/maintenance anyway, so they can take photos while they do it, and either take a pre-existing writeup and simply add pictures (and/or modify as necessary), or if no writeup exists, they can complete one and submit it. That way we can save the old and promote the new. It's simple really. I just really wish we could get the ball rolling and MAKE this happen. And centralizing the information is KEY.

Thank you all. I'm just glad to see there isn't as much ******** on here as there is on hondatech. Sorry for asking noobie questions, although i am a noobie towards rotary.
so 3" down pipe is the first mod then improve the cooling on the car?

downpipe is a good place to start/cooling is a good place to start. it just depends on what you have time/money for but i would make sure to gte a boost gauge before you begin heavy exhaust modifications so you can watch for boost creep.

I bought some intake of ebay that were .01 cents each and $20 to ship, so 40.02 total investment on intake, found another company on ebay that had the power fc and commander brand new for appx 700, done deal, i bought the car with a doody *** exhaust that has absolutely no baffle in the muffler sedction, FRIGGIN LOUD, especially when put on a 3" downpipe and catless midpipe( also ebay for like 70.00)....ummm and I did just unhook the stock bov's...I highly recommend a radiator, I have a KOYO, like 2and a half time the size of stock and it looks good also ebayfor like 400.00, alternator and water pump pulley with belt(ebay like 60.00) and remove the smog pump, when I bought the car it already had all the vacuum lines replaced to some nice silicone ones. If any of this helps, downpipe and catless test pipe really dissipate the heat much better(no pre-cat or main cat), the power fc is cake...take out your passenger kick panel, remove your old ecu, plug in the power fc ecu and run the commander up to the dash, re-install the kick panel, right off the bat your much happier, and DONT LET YOUR CAR OVER HEAT!!!!! I'm working on gettin some new fans next, and whenever your interested I custom made my own front mount intercooler with piping, silicone fittings, clamps, and instructions on how to install it and stand up your radiator. I know its a lot of info but I do all my own work and I am slowly learning with the tuning so if ya gots any ?'s feel free to pm or whatevas

To quote: myself,
before even thinking about adding any mods to make the car go faster do the right thing by replacing factory pieces that are in need of replacement after all these years. then follow the guidelines in the faq and you will be more happy with the car for much longer.
Ive owned my car for a while now and you have to understand that the miles dont neccesarily mean a rebuild. For some they do, mainly because of the previous owners who may have ratbagged the hell out of the car. For me the maintenence costs that im getting into now are quite expensive as most 13-15 years cars are. These also are notorious for running hot which means the things under the hood that are most susceptible to heat damage are coming up for replacement. things like the wiring harness which will run about $1000.00 and the vacuum lines another $100. even suspension bushings. Turbos, which if they are original do seem to age quite quickly, so while the engine may still be in good condition most people don't do the required maintenance on the supporting underhood systems. That mean that hoses, wires, suspension, even interior are sometimes left to rot or just go uncared for by some owners. you as a buyer get the unfavorable job of paying to replace all the things left by them. which on these cars can add up to quite a bundle in a hurry.
I agree with most people on here that regular maintenance will keep the motor strong but with these cars there is a lot to maintain and to add on, to get that reliability, i have voiced my frustration on the car here in several thread and i work on the car myself. I need to stress that most Mazda dealerships should not even be considered as support for you. so unless you love to learn and work on it yourself or are near a reputable RX7 specialty shop you are going to be up Sh*T creek fixing it. there is this forum but if you expect someone else to ever fix your car when something goes wrong you are indeed in for a surprise.
This should not discourage you at all because they are beautiful cars and will reward you for caring for them. but you need to realize that you got about 15 years of maintenance to catch up on. if you do have to go through the unfortunate case of rebuilding the motor expect to shell out another $4-5K to have a reputable shop do it for you or another $2k to do it yourself (this is assuming you do it right the first time and dont have to end up having someone do it for you as well)
OEM replacement parts are getting harder to find and good used ones are getting pricier as they become rarer too so keep that in mind when you look for your first FD.
My advise on buying one is buy the best condition one you can possibly afford and then immediately count on spending an additional 10-15% of that price on replacing as many of the original vital components you can. obviously doing things in order of most dire to least. that way you will have a heads up on most guys who purchase these cars with their entire savings and can no longer afford to repair them or replace things which will inevitably need to be. Ive see this happen all too often as owners cant afford to fix them or get them back in running condition and all to often the car ends up sitting as salvage or going to scrap.
Good luck but realize that like i said before unless you live near a rotary shop you will be on your own almost completely. for a list of reputable shop in north america this forum has a lot of information.

I just still have a few questions about FD's. I bought a FD with 42000 miles on it. Original paint, interior parts etc. No accidents etc etc. But the guy had a engine failure at 11k and he rebuilt the engine and replaced it with 4mm seals. now It's been a good 31k miles. The 2nd owner says that he changed the oil and the filter frequently to the car and i learned not to trust most people that sell things. So now I'm going to my friends garage to borrow his compression gauge and tools to do it. Basically i read a write up on how to do a compression check and it's very similar to compression checking a piston engine. Just take out the spark plugs and slap in the gauge and turn the engine on and then look at the gauge am i correct? just verifying it.
1. Warm up engine to operating temperature, then allow it to cool for 10 minutes while you get the plugs out.
2. Remove the front and rear trailing (upper) spark plugs while the engine cools.
3. Disconnect the circuit opening relay, and the igniter connector. The CAS and EGI fuse are both unplugged so that no gas nor spark will occur during the test.
4. With both spark plugs out, fully depress the accelerator pedal to the floor, and motor the engine for 5-10 seconds. You should watch for 3 bounces of the needle (once for each rotor face). Specifications vary depending on the brand of shop manual. I’ve gone by 7.0 kgf/cm2 or 100 psi minimum @ 250 rpm as stated in my 93 RX-7 Workshop Manual. Other references say 6.0 kgf/cm2. Yes, you can compensate for higher cranking rpm during the test. There's a chart in the Workshop Manual.

Well I tried not too long ago...started this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=399609, at which point I found out about this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?p=4086254, and all that ensued was a mini debate-war about who's site should host all the info. Which is dumb IMO. By the time the smoke clears, there won't anything left to host.

I've certainly come across enough posts where the links are dead and have thought of creating a site to host info and especially media. There's no sense in doubling efforts so kudos for wanting to expand your site to incorporate this stuff.
In particular one thing I would like to see is a media library of Rx7s. Such as video clips, sound files of different BOVs, sound files of different exhausts, etc. I've tried finding some on youtube and the forum but there really seems to be very little out there.
Would you be interested in adding such a library to your site? It would make sense if you sell the different parts to include links to the files so people could hear and buy the parts they like. If not, I would be willing to still do the media site.
Let me know what you think of the media file library idea. I'd also love to hear from other members about their thoughts on having a library of these types of files

Ramy,
You thinking of including such items on your expanded website of the future?

Attn: Mods
In the meantime, maybe the mods could make a sticky asking people to upload files (pics, sounds, instructions, etc) to the posts instead of linking to others that will go away at some point?
Mods, this is obviously a sore point for the members and the value of the forum. Would you be willing to make a sticky to encourage people to upload items rather than linking elsewhere?

Wack0aznboi, you should also refrain from talking smack about other people's cars that are faster than yours until you actually learn how to properly modify your FD, let alone drive it.

So is your ignorance and lack over general automotive knowledge. Stop talking to others like you know everything about your car, and their cars, if you really dont know squat. You've pissed off quite a few people on quite a few different occasions by running your mouth, asstart.
