Hi flow precat?????? wanted

Tired of changing the downpipe to precat then back to pass smog inspection, anyone have any info on the SRMotorsports precat? does it run cooler than stock? etc etc, looks like it might be an alternative........thanks

holy ****! they want $699 for a pre-cat?!?

i am selling a high-flow pre-cat right now, for only $200.

it was custom made with a Random Technology high-flow racing cat and a 3" stainless downpipe. it's also heat-wrapped.

it really helps to quiet down the exhaust noise from under the hood, but still flows nicely like a straight pipe. i'm sure it helps out with smog testing, but ive never smog tested the car because we don't have emissions regulations in FL.

here's the link to my for-sale thread if you're interested:

and a pic of mine (the one on top, obviously):

The precat was for EPA cold start emissions testing only - which is not done during any state smog test. FDs without a precat have absolutely no problems passing in even the toughest states - assuming they have a main cat and are properly maintained.

its about pulling the DP out for the visual inspection at the smog check, no so much for the sniff part of the test......

If your visual is that strict, then get a used stock downpipe and gut it.

Makes sense. And most smog technicians (even in test only stations in CA) would not know an FD downpipe if they were hit on the head with it. If you are unlucky enough to get a technician that knows about it, just go to another smog station. Perhaps a state referee may be knowledgeable enough - but getting sent there is a pretty rare occurrence.

You dont want to buy anything from them. Ask Rich aka: GoodfellaFD3S about their business practices.

i've never had any problems with SR Motorsports. i bought a whole clutch/flywheel package from them (among other things) and they've always been great.

another option is the JDM downpipe, it looks like a stock but doesn't have the pre cat.

For what its worth I passed smog at a CA referee station with an ebay down pipe and a cheap universal converter, it was spray painted black. This was in an FC that was legaly (for smog purposes) changed to a 13b-rew.
