HELP!! Problems Installing S2000 Engine Start Button

Today i began installing the S2000 engine start button, following the write up by Mr. Jonboy. i followed the instructions accordingly...i've finished wiring everything together...and i when i tried testing the button, nothing happens.

When i turn the key to ON, everything lights up as normal, except the START BUTTON...and when i try to push the START BUTTON to start the car, nothing happens.

Please help me out...give me some ideas. My initial guess is that the power wire from the button is not wired correctly...but i have it wired to the cruise control button harness...the third wire from the left, and i checked the manual and this is Terminal D, the terminal that's on when the button is both ON and OFF. The cruise control button does light up if i push on when the key is in ON, but when the key is in ACC and i push the Cruise Control ON Button, it doesn't light up.

Please give me some suggestions...i tried searching, but i couldn't find anything...i guess no one had problems following the tutorial except me.

BTW, i'm using the 3.5 Floppy power plug for the button.

Could it be that the wire connectors weren't crimped properly? i stripped the tip of the wires before i crimped them...for the ground wires, i have them tapped into the same ground wire as my greddy boost gauge...and i've also had them grounded to the body of the car...neither worked.

i'm all outta ideas of what it could be...i'd appreciate all the help i can get...thanks!

It does require a ground, and i've tried two different grounds...once i ground it directly, and i also tried tapping it into another ground wire....neither made a difference.

my guess..

if the ground is ok.... get a tester... and test the wire that is supposed to have power when the key is in the ON position... maybe you have it hooked up wrong..

I just finished doing that...i used the voltmeter and tested the power connection, and it seems to be perfectly fine...i'm getting a 12v reading when the car is ON...and there's no reading when the car is on ACC, but the weird thing is there is also a 12v reading when the car is off and the keys are out of the ignition.

this thing is driving me crazy...if i can't figure out what's wrong with this set up, i'm just gonna take it all out and give up...

btw, i'm using a 30amp relay that i got from Radio Shack...

hmm it is weird that you are reading 12 V when the car is OFF, i would guess you have the wrong wire.

are you sure you hooked on correct on the button?

have you tried jumping the two wires instead of using the button?

Always disconect your battery before preforming all electrical maintainence. (if you posted here, this includes you)

You need to wire the ground to the ACC power wire with a 1 watt 3 ohm resistor installed in series paralell with the cruise control potentiometer. Dont use the 3.5 floppy power plug for a connector, my friend used one of those and lit his car on fire, use the zip250 connector they are much more flame retardant. DANGER!!! Dont use the ground from you boost gauge becuse it will cause a boost spike causing shorter eng and turbine life. If you dont have the type R cruise control chip from greddy you may have problems but I have heard of people just using the stock one also, and some just dont have cruise control at all. This is a great mod, but, if you dont have the radiator fan electronic controler you may cause overheating at extream start up conditions. Your air condtioning temp sensor also has to be disconnected to start the car in this configuration but it will work untill you can buy Electromotive TIII 0U812 cluefinder kit then you plug the temp sensor back in. Always recheck all connectors and grounds.

Let me know how everything turns out after you have completed these steps.

I was gonna suggest jumping the wire to see if it's the switch. And then make sure the relay is wired correctly and is working.

I used some wire from my turbo timer to power the damn thing and everything works properly...it definitely sounds like you chose the wrong power wire. Oh and this mod doesn't add hp like some people claim

that would solve th problem...

Man you are looking hard for that wire, you brought up THREE threads about it...oh btw I don't know which wire it is. I used the hardness to wire the turbo timer and then there was this magical wire (off the turbo timer) that powered on with the acc, so I use it.
