HELP!!! No reverse gear!!!

I have no idea what happened. I used the reverse earlier today, but now it will not go into the gear. I pulled and tugged, but I really don't want to brake anything. Is their anything I can do? I have had the car all of about 3 weeks now. Please help if their is any kind of trick let me know. I have not had this problem until today.

There shouldn't be any trick. Start the car up, push in the clutch and if reverse is difficult to get into, put it in 2nd gear and let the clutch out enough to just barely engage. Now try reverse again.

I have had problems getting into a gear sometimes, and had to stick it in second, let off the clutch, put it in neutral, completely let the clutch out, and then put it in gear.

Good luck.

Sounds like my old rx7! It wouldnt go into reverse at first and then it would pop out of fifth while i was driving. I had to end up replacing the fifth gear syncro and stuff and it was fine again. Dont mean to scare you. I also got a new clutch while i was at it and it was all about 1000 dollars.

I found a 95 tranny for $500 w/exchange and a 90 day warrenty. I can't do the work as far as replacing the syncro so it will cast more to replace them. will the 95 tranny work in me 93 R1? I think I can do the swap so it will be cheaper to do that as long as it fits. thanks for your help guys. Let me know if it will fit.

The tranny isnt that hard to get out. I dont see why the 95 wouldnt fit in your car.

5th gear synchro breaks and parts of it block you from going into reverse. I've had that happen, too. A new synchro or new (rebuilt) tranny should fix it.

That's worst-case Max, but very possible. Sometimes you need to "rock forward" in 1/2nd gear then slide into reverse, especially if there is a load on the tranny like an incline or the car moved before applying the parking brake and the gears are still meshed.

i had that happen too max...missed a shift to third..broke the fifth gear synchro and it lodged in the reverse gears.

I pulled the tranny myself in a day on my back in the garage. if the bolts werent stuck on some of the ***** it would have been easier.
