Thumbs up Help me loose some weight..

Last time i weight my car it weight 2900lb and that was before my the T56 swap which probably added another 50 to 60 pounds. i would like to be @ 2800 or under if is possible. I still a full interior minus the spare tire and jack, what else can i do to drop some weight and keep it a "street" car? Thanks.

It all depends on how much street manners you are ready to loose.

What are your wheels now? Next thing would be looking into dry carbon pieces.

my fd is not my daily so i can live with out some things.. i was thinking about removing the carpet and all the rear bins and plastic and i believe i still have all the sound denoting stuff, leaving the dash, front seats, door panels and shifting console.. but how much weight can i drop by doing that?

i wonder how much the rear hatch weights so i can compare it to the carbon fiber that Seibon sells.

wheels are advans RZ 18x9 and 18x10 255/285

^^^ Maybe if you normally do your driving on Jupiter.

Standard one is under half that weight, you can potentially save ~ 40lbs going the route you suggest however.

As you don't run a GT wing, a dry carbon rear hatch with perspex for glass will save you a fair bit. (As a GT wing requires a lot of reinforcement and modification of the rear triangles for support) - This will however, mean no rear defroster.
17" light alloys
What seats do you have? Could change for something lighter...
All sound deadening from under interior.
Drive naked.

The FD is a tricky car to eliminate weight from. Mazda already did a good job removing weight!

Biggest one is figuring out where you ADDED weight to the car and working on that. Big stereo systems are a lot of weight. Also, see if you can remove weight from the exhaust - if you have mild steel tubing, stainless is lighter. A Titanium cat-back will shave about 10-15 pounds off most aftermarket cat-backs.

As stated, wheels are a biggie. Stock wheels are about 15 pounds, that's 60 pounds for the whole car. If your aftermarket wheels are 25 pounds, that's 100 pounds for the whole car - 40 pounds heavier. You may not be able to remove a lot of weight considering you need fat wheels for traction.

Of course, your motor is half again as heavy as a regular rotary .

Keep the AC in if possible, you gotta have AC in south Florida!

bewtew you have a beautifull and fast cars, one of my favorite FD's, but (unless you want it as a track car) i wouldnt start eliminating sound deadning material and stuff, it would take away the purpose of your car if its meant to be a GT (damn fast gt) car.

I'd try the Seibon Carbon Hatch, that will take a few good pounds off of it.

You can also try Seibon carbon doors (of course painting them), that will REALLY take weight of the car.

Basically id keep the interior stock and nice as is and just add carbon parts to help off the weight.

Only do this if you intend to run a FULL CAGE, otherwise you lose your side impact protection which is really important. Most companies will even refuse to sell them unless you're running a full built in cage with side supports.

Pump your tyres with nitrogen If your shocks are oil filled, swap them with nitrogen filled coilovers

lightweight battery is the only thing i can think of worth adding.

Talked to a guy who did a conversion with a FD with a tubular frame. The entire front end was just made of metal tubes and the inside was caged as well. Probably pretty expensive but he was running a 3 rotor and said he weighed in at around 2600 lbs!!

When you consider what air is composed of, you'll realize that won't save any weight.

Yes, I saw the smiley, I got one too.

Honestly unless you are building a Time Trial car, I wouldn't worry about it. Just drive and enjoy the car. As long as you aren't hitting SUV weight, you are fine. With today's standards, that's still very light unless it's a Lotus.

to be honest with the power to weight ratio that you have, it be a moot point to save a few lbs on streetcar.

My suggestions:
Carbon fiber fenders, hood and hatch
If you have sunroof, eliminate it.
lighter wheels (17" RPF1 is the first one that comes to mind)
Lighter battery
Lighter seats
sleek head light
full titanium exhaust
If you have bbks, get 2 piece rotors for the stock calipers
remove cruise control and associated components
Remove power steering
Remove AC
If that doesn't get you where you want, then remove all interior sound deadening material. I don't recommend this one because driving the car can become unpleasant.

MoTec PDM (Please do this, so we can have a wright up!!!)

This would allow you to ditch all fuse blocks & relays (Simplified harness = Safe weight loss)

+ it would allow a complete customizable electrical interface.

Holy ****... those pdm's are cool. I think I will be using something like that when I build my kit car.

Thanks for all the ideas and tips guys.. but I'm pretty much stuck as far as making the car lighter and keeping the interior so I'm going to focus on removing all the extra wiring that i don't use. I'm looking at a system similar to the motec PDM and hopefully that will help me loose some weight in the car. Worst case scenario i can always crank up the boost..
