help me boys
I'm trying to convince my parents to let me buy an rx7 fd. I've wanted one since I was 16, and now that they seem to be getting cheaper (at least on ebay anyway), I'm trying to get one. The problem is, is that my brother is a a hardcore american car guy, and puts down everything about the rx7 when I say I want one...so my parents assume it's junk. Where are some good places to try to find them for sale? I've only been looking at ebay, and ebay isn't all safe. If you guys could give me some info to back up the quality of the car, where to get one, or any other info you think is good, please let me know.
Thank guys !

Look around on autotrader.com or cars.com. They usually have at least one or two FD's within 500 or so miles. There are TONS of reasons why an FD is SOOO much better than some piece of amer. trash!! It is an extremely unique car (rotary engine w/ sequential turbos, very sophisticated for 1993), has handling abilities of some of the best race cars out there, acceleration that will blow your mind stock and blow your whole body away with serious mods, looks that make people stop at intersections to stare at your car with very modern body design for a 8-10 year old car, or to put it simply, drive the car and be amazed!! If any of the silly reliability BS comes up, certain mods will fix that in no time even though the FD is still very reliable stock. The only reason people think the FD is unreliable is because idiots out there throw crazy performance mods on it without proper preparation or notice of possible detonation and overheating. The correct modifying/tuning process will leave you well-rewarded! Your brother won't even stand a chance!! Good luck in your FD quest!

Don't let anyone fool you or tell you otherwise. There is a reason that people have so many problems with FDs - yeah, people mod them wrong and they detonate - but my car was stock when my coolant seals cracked and needed a new engine. Now I have a car with a primary turbo that needs rebuilt and I'm down about 60 hp. With the FD, there's always something. A FD can be very rewarding - when working right. The car will nickel and dime you and then sink you with an engine or turbo expense. Once you have those 2 out of the way, you're ok - but make sure you have somebody who knows what they're doing who build your engine. The FD is far from reliable and to make it reliable you have to spend atleast $5K (atleast) to get it somewhat reliable. it can be a street dominator - but not a Honda.

I see you are in Colorado. I bought mine in Denver a couple years ago when I lived up in the Springs. Check the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News. There is almost always at least one for sale in Denver. Also check out the Gazette in Colorado Springs, you can occasionally find them there also.

omg, your brother must be a dick.
in anycase, tell them it can out accelerate, out handle, out brake everything under 100k (best defence is a strong offence), also tell them it cost cheaper then a new civic and looks 100X better!!!
tell you brother, new corvettes stole the image and design of fd's.

thanks for the help guys... I guess if I'm gonna have to end up spending another 5k to make it "reliable", after spending more than twice the current value of my 1999 car, then is just isn't worth it...in my opinion. Looks like I might have to find a new car too oogle, or drool over until I can afford it. Just seems pointless to me to have to spend more money after buying a car that is allready 7 or so years old, just to make it a daily driver. It's not like I was wanting one for hard-core racing...but o well. I may stop by every once in awhile just to check up on things. Until then, take care of yourselves, and each other.

The statements above are very misleading.. You dont need 2 spend 5k+ right after you get the FD. To make it realiable you only have to spend less or around 1k.. The 5k that everyone is talking about is the price for a rebuilt motor should it take a **** on you.. If you aint got the money to fix the car dont buy it.. You may be able to afford a Porsche but if you cant afford to fix it then there is no point in having one.. Some of the best advice my grandfather gave me..

Monkey boy is right. It doesn't cost 5k to fix these cars. They are very dependable cars in the right hands. The extra 1k will get you all the relaibility mods that you should need at first. Example: A Porsche 928 has Nitrogen filled shocks and they are crazy expensive and you can only get them from Porsche itself. NAPA can't help you, so make sure you can afford to fix it when it breaks. It'll happen if you like it or not.

OHHH and one more question... You plan on finicing this or paying straight cash?? For one i dont think you should buy any car unless you can write a check right then for it and own it. 2 if your makin payments on this car, paying for gas, payin for insurance, payin for maintance, and for the possiable thing gone wrong you will need a very very good paying job.. And with you still being a student and only being 19-20 i dont think you will be able to afford one.. Might wanta look into a TII or something along those lines.. Not trying 2 keep you from getting one just making sure you have checked everything and are sure you can get one. And if you really want one and know how to keep it up..
