help finding cats from knightsport :)
hey everyone, so id like to ask for some assistance trying to build a cat system for my 20b. ive already decided on the metalit cats (knightsports is the only distributor). ive decided on the metalit ones for a few reasons... reports of people melting the other brands, and my own positive experience (so far) with a metalit knightsports cat on my other 13b FD.
on the 20b i will be running TWIN cats in parallel (with a Y pipe to and from the twin cats). i have my downpipe made up already and it mates up perfectly to the stock cat, and racing beat cat back... so for simplicity i might just buy a prefabbed midpipe and hack it up, and add the cats in the middle . the core diameter of my current knightsports cat is 4" and the stock cat's heatshield is slightly wider than 8" so it will be a tight fit, but with the propper Y pipes made i should be able to fit two next to each other in there.
anyway, i dont speak japansese unfortunately but from the pictures i can find on their website they have cores (with flanges built in already that would make them REPLACEABLE if they go bad).... looks like it may be for an FC but it could be for any of the other cars on their list. i was wondering if anyone could assist me in pulling the part numbers and specs for the cat listed in the picture. i want to make sure its the 300cpi one and no bigger than 4" OD. anway the one pictured could be for any of the cars in this list so maybe someone knows more about these than i do (hopefully) . with a couple of these, a prefabbed midpipe, and 4 racingbeat flanges im hoping to take everything in to a muffler shop and have them put everything together for me for not too much.
thanks for your help if you can, heath

I think Dale Clark's web site has a link for translating Japanese web pages. Give it a try.

The cat core is probably made by some large conglomerate like Dow Chemical. I really recommend giving the engineers at Random Technology a call. I did and they are very good people to speak with. You'll first speak with a sales guy, but then tell them that you'd like to speak with an engineer about a custom application and you'll get through to someone.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I would recommend talking with SMB in Australia -
http://www.smb.net.au/index.htm
They use metal core cats, and their workmanship and quality is outstanding, price is VERY good.

I'd say go with what Dale is saying.
Knightsports offers two different units. The pictured unit you are looking at is for a Nissan application. The Mazda FD3s application has two apps.
EZD-15202 "METALIT"?????????????, "Pro-200"E-FD3S 120,000 ???
Basically a 80mm unit with 200 cells for 120k Y before taxes which gives ~ 998 USD
The 300 cell unit,
EZD-15107 "METALIT" ?????????????, GF-FD3S 90,000 ~750$ ??? (80mm)
Either are gonna match to what you are wanting to do.
You can contact directly Knightsports, goto their website and there email is there.
But I would still say go with the SMB unit.

i personally would love to get my hands on a knightsports metalit if i can afford it. Instead i got the SMB one with resonator. and exactly like Dale said.... SMB's craftsmanship is outstanding. the hinges, welding, flanges, is top notch.

anyway i cant seem to get bablefish to translate this page properly.... so i thought id just post my questions here (as you seem knowledgeable ).
1: is the inner diameter of the cats connection tube a 3"? i need a 3" as the rest of my system is 3".
2. is the outer diameter of the cat 4" (like the one they use on the rx7?). i have 8 inches (give or take) to squeeze both of them in next to each other.
3. are the exhaust flanges the same size/dimensions as the mazda ones... i need to connect up to mazda flanges.
thanks for all the help... im bummed that the metalit ones are so freakin expensive, but i just took my 13b to the smog station yesterday with a 4 year old metalit on there and i passed with flying colors. im happy to pay for quality products that perform and last.

^ also lastly... if im going to be hooking up lines for an airpump (i need to pass smog for CA) where would be the best place to weld bungs to? (before the cat, possibly in the connector, right before the substrate material, or is air supposed to be injected INTO the substrate material?). im worried a stock airpump may not be up to the task of supplying 2 cats

Heath, I speak w/ Knightsports quite frequently. If you have any questions for 'em, lemme know. Plus I'm sure I can wing a nice discount for ya on the cats, esp. if you're gonna get 2 of 'em
