Wow! Holy ****, I can't believe how much **** people talk about cars that they know nothing about. Stock 99-up Mustang GTs run as fast as 13.80 stock with a good driver, so in this case a stock FD running a 13.50 is faster. Cobras, on the other hand, are a totally different story. My 99 Cobra ran 13.41@103.4 with a k&n, and currently runs high 12s with mild mods. They are both great cars, but they are totally different.
As far as reliability goes, give me a friggin break. Despite the fact that the rotary is a great performer, 100k is pushing the life of it. The 5.0 is probably one of the most durable performance engines out there. My old 88 5.0 lx was still running 13s with 230k on the motor.
In conclusion, I think that the FD is an oustanding car, which is why I have one. But it is QUITE silly to disrespect a mustang's straight line prowess, there are quite a few out there that can hand you your ***. Conversely, it would be silly of a mustang owner to disrespect a RX7.

The question should be "Have you ever lost to a stang?" I was ride'n back from the shop with FD3Boost and we smoked 2 or 3 stangs it is so easy man. I am not talking about you standard 5.0's but like the saleen sc models and stangs like that. It is cake work man.....

I was head to head with a 99 GT until 130 mph where he started to pull....when i glanced at my boost guage it was sitting at zero.... Got it test and I was only making 160hp and 189 torque if i remember correctly... fixed leak by going nonseq + dp and ripped that 99 to pieces...ahhh GOOD TIMES

This is crazy. This is the deal. You can say what you want about Ford(and a lot of the things said have been entertaining) but, Ford keeps the cost down on the GT so normal people can afford it. Then they make numerous aftermarket stuff to get it up in HP. Now, Chevy does the opposite. They make a very formidable Camaro SS, but the cost is higher. I don't think anyone here would sneeze at an SS. Let's not forget that the 7 is a relatively high priced car. It's on a totally different level than a GT.
Now. About the racing thing. Iv'e spanked numerous GT's. Anybody that owns an FD knows that it can be done. I've also had some good exchanges with some Stang's (of every year). I've seen Cobra's pull alongside FD's all the way up to 120mph.
A Mustang done by a knowledgable person, could be made to be competitive with an FD, aspecially in a straight line. The supercharged Saleen makes good power and handles pretty well. Kenny Brown makes very complete Stangs. Even Roush makes some tough cars. What about the Cobra R as well. I doubt any of the people here would be talking smack next to any of those cars. And I know that a lot of us here have cars that would take some of the cars previously mentioned. But those people are not the ones blazing the bullshit trail. The cars we race on a daily basis, are not the best representatives of the stock. The good ones are as rare as FD's.
I'm an RX7 guy all the way, but enough is enough.

My Cobra runs high 12s with about $1100 in mods.
My old LX made 383 rwhp, ran 12.20s on 17" wheels, for a total cost of $6500 (including the car).
Apples to oranges.

I have many good friends with Mustangs, and I respect them. One has an 85 GT that's fast as hell.
That said, I've beaten all of them through the 1/4 as I (and they) progressed in mods over the last 2 years. This was mainly streetracing on a deserted stretch of road that is about 1 mile long, with the quarter mile marked off.
The thing that always pisses them off is that I beat them where the 7 is weakest--the 1/4. They still won't go on a roadcourse with me or make any kind of 150 mph pull--wonder why ?

No, I'll tell you what the deal is:
First off, the thread was "have you ever beaten a mustang". IS anyone in their right mind going to post a loss in someway? I doubt not too many. I ANSWERED a post like this because I've had alot of encounters with Mustangs instigating to race and have won all......and ofcourse the owner being a total jerk (giving the finger, etc.)
We are not idiots because all this is is the typical chevy vs ford thing, car vs car post, import vs domestics. So big deal, if you think we're picking on ford's, they probably post just as bad.
I know they're are fast ones and I probably wouldn't know it till it was over in a race situation, but I haven't yet - so my post stands.....I've beaten many. If anyone should get flamed, it's the original thread starter maybe.......
As far as mustangs, yeah they can be made fast but I couldn't stand seeing someone else with the same car every few streets I go down. My girlfriend's dad gave her one and we traded it in a month later to get something she thought had more quality. The lines in the interior's don't line up, it creaks and rattles - not to mention it will depreciate in value by half in one to two years.
American cars in general are only better because they have more foreign parts in them......
And yes affordable but no-one is buying them anymore anyways........0% finacing ring a bell? So u spent $1100 to make it fast, is that supposed to be like a wow factor thing? Your parts are made in the US so ofcourse it's cheaper. Are you saying the less you spend for more power is the thing? In that case, someone buying a $500 100 shot NOS kit has more brains than you.
Until the day where I see something in an American car that makes me say "Wow, why didn't I think of that!"
I'll continue to look down on them......
