Mustangs, I don't bother. They don't wanna race me, and I don't wannna race them.

Toddzilla 08-12-02 11:14 AM

Wow! Holy shit, I can't believe how much shit people talk about cars that they know nothing about. Stock 99-up Mustang GTs run as fast as 13.80 stock with a good driver, so in this case a stock FD running a 13.50 is faster. Cobras, on the other hand, are a totally different story. My 99 Cobra ran 13.41@103.4 with a k&n, and currently runs high 12s with mild mods. They are both great cars, but they are totally different.

As far as reliability goes, give me a friggin break. Despite the fact that the rotary is a great performer, 100k is pushing the life of it. The 5.0 is probably one of the most durable performance engines out there. My old 88 5.0 lx was still running 13s with 230k on the motor.

In conclusion, I think that the FD is an oustanding car, which is why I have one. But it is QUITE silly to disrespect a mustang's straight line prowess, there are quite a few out there that can hand you your ass. Conversely, it would be silly of a mustang owner to disrespect a RX7.

m0t03 08-12-02 12:42 PM

im not even gonna read the rest of this thread. you and your slow ass GT will get beat every by time by an FD.

The question should be "Have you ever lost to a stang?" I was ride'n back from the shop with FD3Boost and we smoked 2 or 3 stangs it is so easy man. I am not talking about you standard 5.0's but like the saleen sc models and stangs like that. It is cake work man.....

Turbo_F1 08-12-02 08:48 PM

I was head to head with a 99 GT until 130 mph where he started to pull....when i glanced at my boost guage it was sitting at zero.... Got it test and I was only making 160hp and 189 torque if i remember correctly... fixed leak by going nonseq + dp and ripped that 99 to pieces...ahhh GOOD TIMES

MazdaMike 08-12-02 11:22 PM

wait hold up, u were in a FD or an FC im hoping u got mixed up and by early 90's u mean 92 or earlier no way a 5 0 beat a TT

The RX-7 Bandit 08-12-02 11:45 PM

YEAH MUSTANGS CAN'T HANG, cobra model, OHH VERY SCARY,,,,, NOT. Ive whipped gt's like crazy beat an 99 M roadster and beat a boxster s with a couple car lengths, ALL THIS WHILE MY CAR WAS CROP DUSTIN LIKE CRAZY FROM AN OIL LEAK IN DA TURBOS, AHAHAHAH!!!!!

however i was put into my place when i went up against a porsche 996 and a late model toyota supra. HOWEVER I STILL HAD A LEAK, my car will soon be in @$$ kick condition soon with no leaks and some bolt ons, all i gotta say is B *^(h better whatch out!!!!! :p:

legendr35 08-13-02 03:05 AM

i smoked a GT so bad it wasn't even funny, I was even hitting fuel cut and I still smoked him...but it isn't really fair, cuz he was stock

Rexafied 08-13-02 04:28 AM

Thread sucks....probably a troll from begining anyways. Oh yeah and I smoke GT's in my mom's mini-van.

jspecracer7 08-13-02 06:35 AM

I hate to add to this focker...but I guess I just did.

Mustangs are no comparison. I can rebuild my engine all day long...how about you piston owners?

The DJ 08-13-02 06:56 AM

have you ever beat a mustang?

The question is how many times.........lol!

Toddzilla 08-13-02 09:27 AM

You are the stupidest people on earth....ignorant bastards. Have any of you actually been to a track?

This is crazy.:wtf: This is the deal. You can say what you want about Ford(and a lot of the things said have been entertaining) but, Ford keeps the cost down on the GT so normal people can afford it. Then they make numerous aftermarket stuff to get it up in HP. Now, Chevy does the opposite. They make a very formidable Camaro SS, but the cost is higher. I don't think anyone here would sneeze at an SS. Let's not forget that the 7 is a relatively high priced car. It's on a totally different level than a GT.
Now. About the racing thing. Iv'e spanked numerous GT's. Anybody that owns an FD knows that it can be done. I've also had some good exchanges with some Stang's (of every year). I've seen Cobra's pull alongside FD's all the way up to 120mph.
A Mustang done by a knowledgable person, could be made to be competitive with an FD, aspecially in a straight line. The supercharged Saleen makes good power and handles pretty well. Kenny Brown makes very complete Stangs. Even Roush makes some tough cars. What about the Cobra R as well. I doubt any of the people here would be talking smack next to any of those cars. And I know that a lot of us here have cars that would take some of the cars previously mentioned. But those people are not the ones blazing the bullshit trail. The cars we race on a daily basis, are not the best representatives of the stock. The good ones are as rare as FD's.
I'm an RX7 guy all the way, but enough is enough.
 Jim

Here here! Finally, rational thought.

My Cobra runs high 12s with about $1100 in mods.

My old LX made 383 rwhp, ran 12.20s on 17" wheels, for a total cost of $6500 (including the car).

Apples to oranges.

Jim Calandrella 08-13-02 11:22 AM

Apples to oranges indeed. Although, there is nothing like a good Mustang joke! :stickpoke

I assume you're talking about the drag strip.

I have many good friends with Mustangs, and I respect them. One has an 85 GT that's fast as hell.

That said, I've beaten all of them through the 1/4 as I (and they) progressed in mods over the last 2 years. This was mainly streetracing on a deserted stretch of road that is about 1 mile long, with the quarter mile marked off.

The thing that always pisses them off is that I beat them where the 7 is weakest--the 1/4. They still won't go on a roadcourse with me or make any kind of 150 mph pull--wonder why :D ?

The DJ 08-13-02 01:11 PM

No, I'll tell you what the deal is:
First off, the thread was "have you ever beaten a mustang". IS anyone in their right mind going to post a loss in someway? I doubt not too many. I ANSWERED a post like this because I've had alot of encounters with Mustangs instigating to race and have won all......and ofcourse the owner being a total jerk (giving the finger, etc.)
We are not idiots because all this is is the typical chevy vs ford thing, car vs car post, import vs domestics. So big deal, if you think we're picking on ford's, they probably post just as bad.
I know they're are fast ones and I probably wouldn't know it till it was over in a race situation, but I haven't yet - so my post stands.....I've beaten many. If anyone should get flamed, it's the original thread starter maybe.......
As far as mustangs, yeah they can be made fast but I couldn't stand seeing someone else with the same car every few streets I go down. My girlfriend's dad gave her one and we traded it in a month later to get something she thought had more quality. The lines in the interior's don't line up, it creaks and rattles - not to mention it will depreciate in value by half in one to two years.
American cars in general are only better because they have more foreign parts in them......
And yes affordable but no-one is buying them anymore anyways........0% finacing ring a bell? So u spent $1100 to make it fast, is that supposed to be like a wow factor thing? Your parts are made in the US so ofcourse it's cheaper. Are you saying the less you spend for more power is the thing? In that case, someone buying a $500 100 shot NOS kit has more brains than you.
Until the day where I see something in an American car that makes me say "Wow, why didn't I think of that!"
I'll continue to look down on them......

Exaclty, but then the quesiton becomes.....which Mustang kill...?

cool_koo 08-13-02 01:45 PM

Don't worry... since I know a Mustang GT loses to an S2000, and my FD is faster than any S2, therefore an FD is faster than a Mustang...

That's fine, I was in no way, shape, or form trying to show how mustangs are "better" than FD's (keep in mind that I own an FD). Nor, was I trying to show how mustangs go faster per dollar with my examples. I was just trying to show that it is not as one sided as some would like to think. Personally, I respect ANY car that is reasonably fast, and I will rarely make blanket statements about that which I do not know.

That is all.

SVT Cobra = beat on the way to my haircut. The guy even took his shirt off before he started revving his engine, i rolled down my window, raised an eyebrow, made a disgusted face, turned up the 1500 watt subs, and proceeded to float him. then got a pretty sexy haircut, all in all, a good day.

charliegt 08-13-02 08:58 PM

I test drove an 02 mustang GT right after trying an rx7 and the stang felt like a SLUG - Not only is the visability awful and the shifter annoying but it is slow as balls. They are nice cars and can be fast but stock they don't compare to an FD. Needless to say I bought the FD.

No offense.

stevecod 08-13-02 11:07 PM

I spanked 5 mustangs one night at the same time 2 months ago. i was going downtown on 55 and all of a sudden 5 moded stangs were merging in from the ramp. I slowly past them up at about 65-70mph and one of them( 99 cobra ) decides to fuck with me and reving his shit up. I said, why the fuck not?? so i waited for them to all pass me and i drop it to 4th pull next to the asshole that was fucking with me (99 cobra). I pulled on that motherfucker so hard that i think i pulled at LEAST 6-7 car lengths. there was an older style stang in there group that i think is supposed to be the fastest out of there group and he wanted to race me and got behind me and high beam my ass and i too gave him around 6 car lengths. after that they were all just behind me and did nothing but looked at the rear of my car the way.

i've owned my 7 for 5 yrs. now and never had a problem.
i guess you just have to know rotary to own one, and in your case stick with your stang.;)

1 BAD 7 08-13-02 11:44 PM

I've only raced Mustangs while my car was still stock, and I smoked em all. The only car I've "lost" to was a 2001 Corvette - dead even through 1st, then he pulled on me in 2nd; and a modded Camaro SS on the highway, again while I was stock. I also raced an NSX after I got my intake, and pulled on him (only through 1st though, since we were on a main road).

That being said, yeah, I did blow the motor a couple months ago, but I'm not the original owner so who knows what was done to it previously :D Or, not done to it. Also keep in mind non-turbo rotaries are a whole 'nuther thing in terms of reliablity; my 88 GXL had 160k+ miles on it, and still going strong when I sold it.

When I get it back and broken in, I'm going hunting for some new challenges. No offense, but I just stopped racing 'Stangs because there was no point. I think the new ones are bad ass looking and have considered buying one, but my FD has me by the balls and isn't letting go ;)

<I know this is dug from the grave, but it's such a silly question...you just can't resist!>

Jammer5703 08-14-02 03:10 AM

Definitely was rollin at 70 and let the GT (new model) hit it first. Saw his nose jump forward a little dropped my (stock at the time FD) into 3rd took it up a few rpm's put it in 4th and by 120 mph I was easily in front. Let off after that, can't afford a reckless ticket. Of course he had to fly by me after I hit my brakes.

GRkrx-7fan 08-14-02 03:37 AM

I have a 99 Mustang GT and an RX-7 has taken me. I wasnt really surprised though. I love RX-7's and hope to buy one soon

RrtyRckt 09-09-02 03:36 AM

Ummm, has anyone taken a look at lil'tokoyo's profile, HE DRIVES A CIVIC of course he thinks mustangs are fast!

sszablya 09-09-02 10:10 AM

why the hell does this post keep coming back from the dead???

oops....

jpandes 09-09-02 01:47 PM

I hate to admit it but I got seriously smoked by a 'sleeper' cobra mustang in my fd on the freeway... Granted that was three of four years ago when my car was basicaly stock and running poorly.

The race was from about 75 mph. We both dropped the hammer and he dusted me, bad. His car just opened up and ROARED. I was still gaining on him at 140mph and he was already on his brakes with his arm out the window waving. Damn that cobra was unbeleiveable! My buddy and i pulled up next to him and had to give him some applause(golf clap).

I have since been buying and installing all the bolt-ons ... ic, ecu, DP, Hi-flow cat, etc... I'd like to meet up with that guy again. Don't know if I'd beat him this time. But, I certainly won't get smoked.

poss 09-09-02 02:19 PM

my name is ryan and i have been beat by a mustang. :(
it was a new Supercharged cobra. i was gaining at the end of the 1/4 however :) if we could have kept going i may have caught him.

Quik 93 FD 09-09-02 02:23 PM

I havent lost to a mustang yet and ive raced a good 10 of them. I also beat a 1996 RUF twin turbo...
