Have a DP ordered.. can I gut cats in midpipe??
I just ordered a DP from Dusty at MVPMOTORSPORTS.com and I was wondering if I could gut my stock cats on my midpipe, I don't have the money right now to replace them.. but.. will this make me boost too high. I want to make my car reliable not fast.
Will this make my car more reliable or less? I am keeping the stock exhaust also.
Let me know any info you have.
Thank you
Allen

#1 Do you have the stock ECU?
A) Yes (Proceed to question #2)
B) No (Proceed to #3)
#2 Would you like your engine to blow up?
A) Yes (Proceed to #4)
B) No (Proceed to #5)
#3 Great! If you have an aftermerket ECU, then you probably have the fuel requirements of a high flowing exhaust system.
#4 Hey good luck on your future engines, and don't bitch about your engine blowing up on a routine basis.
#5 A high flow exhaust will exceed the limitiations of the stock ECU fuel maps. Too much airflow + not enough fuel = possible detonation. Buy an aftermarket ECU before gutting the main cat to use with the DP. You WILL have boost spikes. Now would be the time to either purchase a boost controller, small diameter pills for the precontrol actuator (Less prespooling means less spiking at 4500rpm), or install Home Depot racing bronze valves to adjust the system. If you can't afford an ECU now, then don't gut the main cat. People have done it, but it's not worth the gamble, unless you have loads of cash stashed in case you blow a few engines
