Had a very small accident last night, something VERY weird happed to my car now.

I went out with some friends on this mountain pass late last night. During this wide semi-sharp left turn I steered a little too quickly the end kicked out. I countersteered but when it finally caught on it spun the other way causing my rear end flying into the nearby ditch. My lower rear bumper portion including plate is all messed up, but the upper portion is still fine. The left rear quarter panel took on a few dents.

To save some talk, it took us quite a while along with other bypassers to get me out.

Now once I started to drive again, I noticed that a BOV was present. My Rex is bone stock except for some S-03s. When I boost in first up to about 3-4k rpms, the BOV would go off. I have no idea what made this happen. Would anybody have any ideas on why this occured?

Thanks.

Dan.

BTW, I'm looking for a VR rear bumper if anyone has one for sale. Thanks.

sound

the stock BOV is pretty loud when it isn't connected to the box. check the connections to the box from the BOV.

Do you know where the bov is? It comes off the y-pipe and goes to the back of the airbox. It's possible that with all the shaking from the wreck, the hose simply came off.

I am guessing the crash went on around 30-40ish mph. I know the nearby area of the stock BOV but don't know what it may look like. All I see are those 2 small metal thingies that look like tiny wastegates and that's about it.

If for some reason the hose came off of the stock BOV, will it do any harm if I left it the way it is?

Thanks a lot.

Dan.

my assumption is that evilp either tapped the brakes or let off too quickly on the throttle at high rpms causing weight transfer to the front on the turn and enduced tailwhip...

The reason why the S0-3s didn't help was because the rear kicked out on gravel. The road that I was going on was paved, but I guess I went a little to far to the edge and it grabbed all the gravel and started to slide, it slidded fast, too fast for me to react in time to get control. I was pretty mad at myself for being so careless.

How much would a VR rear bumper cost from a Mazda dealership?

THaNKS.

One more thing about the stock BOV, I checked all around and over but couldn't find any disconnected hoses or lines. I noticed that the car sounded a very tiny bit deeper than before. And also during the AWS, it brougt it up to 2k instead of 3k rpms this morning.

If I didn't plug up that hose, will any harm come to my engine?

Thanks again.

Dan.

The bov is brown and does look somewhat like a wastegate. It is the same as the crv so check both. One ~ 3/4"id hose coming in, one hose going out.

The hose goes into the airbox at the top passenger side I believe. Search the forum for "venting bov, vent blow off valve, etc"

Just thinking about this and do you think possibly you may have shifted the core inside your catalytic converter and now its creating blockage? Or maybe you pinched the exhaust system, or even bent it at a flange causing a leak?

Now that's starting to sound more like the sort of thing to occur when you wipe out into a ditch ..

How would I know or how can I check myself if I have created a blockage? The only visible part of the exhaust system that was effected were the tips which landed partly into the dirt but was fine once I got the car out.

I had the car on a few jack stands the next day and checked underneath, the metal aluminum covers for the exhaust were black dark, maybe it was the cat converter.

Oh and how much would a VR rear bumper cost from a Mazda dealership?

Thanks again.

Are there any unusual colors of smoke coming out of the exhaust?

Even if you bought a VR bumper, prepainted it may not match the stock paint. I good body shop will replace the bumper (cover) and any reinforcements that may be damaged, then paint and blend into the 1/4 panels.

EDIT: Changed above spelling of "maint" to "paint" - My bad.
