Getting an ECU, now what's the HP

I ask you guys what my HP and Torque would be since I am going to the dyno in a few weeks. But I ask you with the mods I have now. I have an ECU lined up and will probably get that soon. I know someone selling a G-force. Those are pretty worthy right? Anyway, what numbers should I be looking for now at 12 lbs and at 14 lbs (can 14 lbs. be run on the stock IC for a short time). The only thing that I won't have that is truely needed is an upgraded IC which will follow in the not so distant future.

Any comments on the G-force ecu and expected Hp and torque numbers with these mods?

With your mods:

12 psi ~ 255-260 RWHP
14 psi ~ 275-280 RWHP

Reprogrammed ecu doesn't change the power, it just spits out more fuel to prevent running lean and blowing the engine. A programmable ecu such as the PFC can be tuned to optimize the A/F ratio to extract the maximum power.

Even with 12 psi, you are pushing it on the stock ecu. @ 14 psi you may only get one chance, but hey, it's your car.

Ok,

Firstly!

12 - 14PSI on std IC, dont do it!

Have you a DP, MP AND CAT BACK. Oh forgot, intake?

@ 14psi your fuelling is maxed out so look @ the safe way first!

1. ecu
2. dp
3. cat back
4. mp
5. IC
6. INTAKE
7. Boost no more than 12psi
8. over 12psi
9. fuel pump
10. bigger injectors (1200cc) secondarys
then max @ 14 psi on stock twins, any more, say bye bye to turbos or engine. Go high flow twins or better, GO SINGLE!

Good luck

Regards...

Well I have heard that this ECU retards the timing at the higher rpm and higher boost. I don't run 12 psi on the stock ECU. I would probably run 12 psi on the upgraded ECU. I have been told that you can run 14 on very few occasions as long as you don't do it consistently you will be fine. But this is just what I have heard. Now what the stock IC can handle is another question. I am guessing 12 but not sure.

The stock IC has a very small total cooling surface. Running a boost higher than 10 psi causes the turbos to generate more heat at the outlet. The stock IC is marginal at cooling the air at 10 psi, it is basically ineffective at 12 and 14. (Also, if you are on the dyno, there is no air flow throught the IC. Being inside the engine bay, the intercooler now become interheater) Some shops hook up a fan to blow air, but it is very difficult to produce the air flow equivalent to a speed of 70+ mph.

Wow Jonboy you are asking for it.

If you do that, then to your engine. Like Trex said, it's your car.

Man, this board confuses me sometimes. Some days I will see people with the same mods as me and ECU that are running 12-14 psi and say they are doing fine. Then the next day I got people telling me I am going to blow the motor.

I have the gforce ( im selling it too!!) and i can say it makes more seat of the pants hp then the Pettt and the stock one ( dah!) It feels tons more powerful.. No idea on my boost level though....

I agree, I don't want to risk my motor. But I want to get the most out of it that I can without risking it. That is what is confusing. Some people are risking more than others and doing alright. Some people are not risking at all and getting slaughtered on the street and track. We all want to tune our cars to their fullest potential.

But how can that be if the stock ECU only puts in more fuel so you don't lean out. I am only quoting from the above.

True! Very True!

We all want more power for our pound or buck(UK)
But I think you know now what is best for your car and your bank balance! I think you would be shitting yourself running what YOU thought was (or might be) safe!

Forget some of the sheep that do it on the cheap! Get a Ic first and PFC or keep the boost to 10.5psi

Like Arnie said "DONT PUSH ME"
Good luck!

Regards...

So you are telling me that 10.5 psi is the max I should run even on a aftermarket ECU (not PFC)?

Correct! Not on a std IC!

Why risk it?

Why risk it? If I did do any of this that we are saying, I would be risking it for the same reason that everybody else does, more power.

Ok pal!

I've tried to help ya by saying 10.5 psi is the safe limit on a STOCK IC. CAN YOU READ

It sounds like you want to *** ya motor! Then go ahead run 14psi like a muppet!

LOL

Come back in 4 weeks of hard driving and tell us how u got on!

Later!!!

Dude don't get so pissed off. I wasn't saying I was going to do anything. Everything that I have said is hypothetical and everything that I have said I have heard from others on the Forum saying that they have done it. Also I already said that I was going to keep the boost level at 12 psi. 14 psi was another hypothetical situation. I am listening to what you are saying , I am also listening to what others are saying and trying to make the best of it. There is really no need to get frustrated and start throwing personal attacks.

Basically what people are saying is that past 12 PSI, the stock IC may not be sufficient.. Also, you'll have to worry about the duty cycle of the injectors as well.

The upgraded ECU will provide enough fuel, but people are just saying there are other things to consider besides the ECU for running at increased boost levels.

I think you would be safe up to 12 PSI, but I don't think 14 PSI would be a good idea at all.

I understand. I have heard that 12 psi is about the max boost for a consistent duty cycle (80-85%). I have heard boost levels up in the 14-15 psi range pretty much maxes the injector (100%) and pretty much just destroying them (overwork). About right?

After the ECU, I will concentrate on the IC, too bad those are a small fortune

Ok friends NOW!

Keep it under 12psi until IC Time!

Then you'll be better off!

an ecu usually ( altough i think gforce and jet are the only ones doing it besides knightsport) is advance timing. Timing = power while your not detonating...

thats where most of the power comes from!
