gas grade

ok was reading through owners manual noticed the suggested grade was 91 .. hmm since they dont have 91 grade at the pump .. was wondering if i could pump a 50/50 mix of 89 and 93 .. ( 89 + 93 ) /2 = 91 .. i dont know how gasoline works or the mechanics behind it .. but would this work?

Use the 93 and feel lucky you can...us poor schmoes in Cali only get 91.

Yeah, you have a higher margin of safety with detonation issues with 93... the higher you go the more power you can make... race gas is typically 101 or so octane so they can run more power safely...

Don't mix... count you blessings and hope they don't lower the octane rating...

Around here, there is this one gas station with 110 octane. About $6 gallon. =P

So far I am running 93 octane with no problems. Gas rises in NY once again to hit a $2.19 a gallon. =(

We have 94 octane in Quebec at Petro-Canada and I see I good power difference between 91 and 94 and less boost spike.

Try a Sunoco Ultra station. They have 94 octane (currently at 2.02/gal, the highest I've ever paid for gas)

Run the highest octane that you can afford. It wont hurt your engine, but only help its longevity. Octane rating is its ability to resist detonation, our cars biggest enemy. It does not make your car run better, faster, cleaner, or any of the other myths. higher octane is insurance against high boost detonation. the higher the boost, the more octane that you need. As with the gas that you run, several other things affect detonation such as intake air temp, and actual compression ratio. Run the biggest intercooler that you can find and put a water injection system in. I love my car, but I think that i will end up buying a vette. Normally aspirated engines are a lot more dependable. We are trying to show detroit that we can kick their butts but it is costing us a lot of evenings in the garage. Good luck

Besides octane rating, do you guys have any info/opinions on quality of gas from different companies?

I think there was a post at some time that talked about the differences in additives between the companies, saying that some gas was better than others (i.e. BP vs. Philips 66). I've always used BP (Amoco), Shell, and Mobil, as those are the three I believe were rated highest (also Sunoco, but we don't get that here.)

I was looking for that thread too. It disapeared. Personally I only use Shell, Mobil or BP(Amaco) unless I get that 100, which is at Gas City. I may have used Marathon once...didn't have any issues with it so...

I guess 76 is supposed to be pretty good. Hell, if NASCAR uses it, guess it can't be half bad.

Nope this is totally ok AFAIK. Theres a pump by my house w/ VP MS103 and on really hot days or when I'm going on hard runs, I always put 3-4 gallons in with a full tank of 91 (Chevron Techron 91 only, ever - heh gas card) and 4 oz MMO, the car loves it and responds great.. my wallet sure doesn't though.

if you tune your car with 100....

100 should be the lowest octane simple as that. boosters suck.... alot of addit. that makes the engine run not as natural.
