Wow, I can't believe a thread about strutbars got 50 responses. I dunno about the R1, I guess it's all about each individual's own tastes, and I never want to knock anyone for opinion. That being said, I'm not too fond of the R1 bar.

OEM strut bars are a good addition to your FD if u are auto x'ing. it dosent count has a mod since it is from the factory. if you were to get a cusco it would bump you up to the modified class.

An aftermarket strut brace does not move you to "modified".

Really if ya ask me on it for this. That really a strut bar is a strut bar pretty much. I have the SS one which was like 110$. It looks good and is adjustable. I would think any strutbar thats made for the RX7 should do well for ya.
