Front splitter/canard/wth

Notice the carbon fiber lips under the front bumper of Jay Laub's show car. These are commonly called splitters. They come in both 2 piece (like his) and one piece. I'm wondering if the purpose of these things is to assist with down force or is it to direct the air in a straight line...in his case into his oil coolers?

My primary interest comes from thinking that a one piece splitter that came across under the mouth of the radiator would split the air going over and under it. In doing so, it would channel more air into the mouth of the radiator and prevent air from going around the front of the car as it follows the bumper curve.

Do you think a one piece would get more air into the mouth of the car?

The show car is for show. I wouldn't expect function to much matter in that case.

I built a splitter for my car which I use during track days and it certainly improved radiator cooling for me. I also have the sides of the inlet sealed to the radiator.
