On friday I got to finish off our 3rd generation rx7 motors we got from Japan. Since we were playing catch up after taking over mazda remanufacturing from cat reman we had 3 backordered MT rx7 motors for a month or so and Mazda Japan built/sent out 10 brand new engines to us for inventory. I took a few pics, its not often you get to see such a wonderfull engine brand new from the factory. I simply added the thermo housing/gasket/bracket to them before we could ship them. I intitialed on the bottom/behind the w/pump on the housing to see if they ever come back to us. I knocked 6 of those out friday along with building 3 rx8's, I still have 4 more rx7's to do next week. Here are a few shots I did with the camera phone......

All finished, I just left the tap they put on the ports/elsewhere, only thing I touched on the engine was the thermohousing tape for the gasket/housing to be installed.

 

I'm going to be porting one of those suckers pretty soon to install in my FD......anyone want a 100 psi compression shortblock? Only 15k miles on the internal seals !

whats the point of a public forum keeping secrets on where to get engines for cheap? That would just encourage more people to get a rotary back in their cars, and back to running.

And I paid 4210 shipped to my door for my brand new engine... 2 years ago. From Malloy Mazda.

 

You would go through a dealership to order one and these are considered "remanufactured" not brand new when you buy it. I will have to add a remanufactured stamp on it before we ship it out also. We were behind and they built some new ones for inventory. I have no idea on prices since we dont set the prices, the dealerships do there own prices. Every dealership has its own mark up over wholesale, some are higher then others in parts. I dont even know what we charge the dealer when they order but you would get the $1k back for the core, and if you were to buy this just remember if you have any aftermarket parts at least throw the old parts back on the engine for the core or they will charge you, such as a light flywheel. You would be surprised how many lightweight rx8 flywheels we have that the mechanic sent to us, personally I would be po'ed if I didnt get mine back.

I assume but I havent had the time to look into it that this engine is for all 3rd gen MT engines but I assume you guys can spot whether or not there are any differences for the years. I know every part/port on a rx8 to tell the differences but I am new to the rx7 engine.

And yes we will be handling rx7 2nd/3rd gen engines now, we are Mazda employed/trained via Mazda Japan rotary builders, I met "Maza" a few times who is known as the mazda rotary master since he has done them since the 70's and we were trained by his coworker "Yoshii" who has been with mazda since 1990. However we have to get rid of our Cat reman inventory for 2nd/3rd gen engines before we build any, only these MT 3rd gens are what we didnt have in inventory due to demand. There were 3 backorders waiting so that leaves us with those 7 new engines before we have to build any here. These will probably stay listed as backorder for a week or so before they get shipped.

I can see the value here if you were to install it as-is (compared to a reman), but don't you lose that value once you disassemble it to port, add upgrades, etc.?

 

I don't think so.....you're getting zero mile irons, rotor housings, rotors, e-shaft, oil pump, front stack components, stationary gears etc etc.

Remans tend to have some new parts (wear items like rotor housings) but usually have used irons, e-shafts, oil pump, stat gears.

I think there's a reason why the original engines in these cars lasted much longer than your typical reman.

Personally I plan to get one of these and break it down to give it a nice port

Oh, and btw, when I mentioned I can get an engine for a low price, I meant I can get a one-time price for my own personal car. No hookups to share on these guys. Call Ray at Malloy, he gives very low prices to club members every day

As far as the value dropping... I see no reason unless you unreasonably altered the internals. Putting in seals less than OEM would bring it down IMO, unless they are ceramics or a well trusted aftermarket seal (there's plenty of **** out there). Oil and coolant mods are some of the best mods you can do to the block. Next would be a nice port to MATCH your goals (nothing that will decrease performance). I honestly also thing a single turbo would be smart as the twins bake the whole motor and realistically insulate heat...

I think Malloy probabaly has sent the most cores for rx7's of any dealer so it makes sense. In fact I shipped one of the backordered rx7's to them today now that I think about it, the other went to a dealer in San Rafael, CA. The part number that went on the motor was N3G1-00-200. I think my supervisor said something about Malloy being involved in Rotary clubs or something so it makes sense that they might sell for less.

 

Malloy has so many sales because of the prices but also because Ray Crowe actually knows what he's talking about and he gives a ****, unlike 90% of local Mazda dealers
