Click on the Profile button under their post. In their profile, there is a link titled Add -username- to Your Ignore List. Although, it still shows that they reponded, it just requires that you click a link to see the post. Problem is, there are alot of people that would fit that.

I don't understand why closing the threads immediately until the offender learns (and they will learn quickly) isn't a viable option.

You've got attention-***** children screwing things up left and right - time to run it like a dictatorship.

Mommy and Daddy didn't have enough time to pay attention to Johnny, but they did have the time to pay for Johnny's death warrant. Why should we have to suffer through the ignorance surrounding it?

It's not a ******* romper room but unfortunately manifest destiny is looking that way. If the post-F&F crowd had their way, ALL sections would be the LOUNGE.

If I'm not mistaken, the search function puts more strain on the forum servers than anything else... IMHO, A well-organized Frequently Asked Questions thread would be a good start, then if the stupid questions persist, the mods would have every right to delete said stupid question and send the user a PM, instructing them to read the FAQ's.

If everyone would be proactive instead of just complaining all the time, solutions would come a lot more quickly. Here's my proposed solution, if anyone wants to help. https://www.rx7club.com//showthread....hreadid=306900

Also, if a moderator could take over, or give me the ability to edit my initial post, that would be great. Give me a month or two, I'll try to make it into something real nice.

while i love the idea of a FAQ, and use them. there seem to be a vocal many who ignore them completely. of course the numbers who use them and find what they need are hard to judge since they are quiet.

Guys, this will never be some "super FD tech utopia". This forum has a high visibility so everyone finds it. I don't think Jason intends to turn it into some elitest forum that you can only get into from invites (however, I've been wrong before and will be again).

My advice is to ignore what you don't like and embrace what you do like.

hey....I'm offended by that remark

Threads that get out of hand just need to be closed.

exactly

Those threads need to be closed quickly once they start. It doesn't take 40 people jumping on someone to make a point. Usually what needs to be said is stated in the first few responses. The same goes for the "simple question" threads. How many people have to chime in with a definition for "Efini" before the thread is just a waste of time?

amen...

Threads that are going nowhere just need to be closed.

Unfortunately, we have people killing time in the tech forums too. They no longer have much interest in helping anyone, and need very little or no help for themselves, but probably spend too much time on the forum. When they see someone making a fool of themselves, they haul out the cross, nails, and hammer and go to town.

I don't appreciate that analogy, but the point is made

I'm as guilty of this as anyone else, although I've been trying to do a better job of just "letting things slide" and a better job of being more helpful.

when you're in a good mood Jim....fatherhood seems to have mellowed you out a little

Bottom line, we just need more regulation to keep the content quality higher. After awhile, people will get the idea and less moderation will be required. You'll still get the occasional problem, but it won't be anywhere near as bad as the beginning will inevitably be. Of course, if you don't make a start somewhere, nothing ever improves.

you will always have n00bs and you will always have punks that do not respect other forum members (or anyone for that matter), especially when they can hide behind the internet....Dennis Williams ("Sterling") was a perfect example of this....still is....he should have been banned months ago for his bs but apparently he has a "following" with the first gen guys

I'm more than willing to help moderate the 3rd gen. forum if anyone thinks that's a good idea.
I think you'd make a good mod, Jim...the battles between you and mario would be all the more entertaining

and it's already been said, but Mahjik has consistently shown professionalism on this forum....the guy is a role model

Good.

Mark, unless you just love arguing about God more than anything else, you should have just let it drop a LONG time ago. I can honestly see why people would doubt the intelligence of someone, no matter what their accolades or degrees, who continued that type of behavior for years. Fair enough?

I agree, and one of the problems is that moderation is not consistent among forums. The guys "moderating" the lounge and DoO forums are asleep at the wheel (or turning a blind eye) as often as not, as far as I can tell.

You know, I'm not opposed to people posting whatever they want to in the lounge and DoO forums, as long as it has no impact on me. If they want to talk about shoving Cap'n Crunch up their asses that's fine, but not when it impacts me and not when I've donated several times to improve the situation. In order to ignore the lounge and DoO, I have to be able to forget that they exist, and we're not there yet.

I thought that the long-hyped new server was going to solve all the problems (as a lot of other people did too, I'm sure), and here we are, back where we started. After the upgrade, things were fine for awhile. I could attach an image whenever I wanted (although the duplicate search was still painfully slow) and never got a timeout on a post or saw "Server too busy" messages when I tried to change pages. Now attachments don't work at all (at least for me), the search page sits and spins half the time, and even normal posts time out often because of the load on the server.

If the number of people killing time in the lounge and DoO forums are tolerated because they're responsible for a large part of the views which draw advertising dollars, then they're still not paying their own way, or the money isn't being put in the right places. On no other forum that I've ever been on has the lounge had such an impact on the rest of the forum. On most, you wouldn't even know they had a lounge, and that's the way things should be. Here, that's not the case.

I would be more than happy to go through the image file collection and do clean-up if that would help. I think that eliminating attachments in all but the tech forums would also be a step in the right direction, as I've said before. As for the lounge and DoO, let 'em do what they want, as long as I don't know they're doing it.

Make people pay? Why not. Sell Platinum memberships with unlimited posting and attachment rights, and I'll be the first to sign up. I don't mind paying for my use of the forum and have been along the way. What pisses me off are all the people who don't donate anything and then whine about "freedom of speech" and other horseshit when their free amusement is threatened in an effort to make the forum more usable by everyone. Selfish *****.

it has nothing to with "arguing about God"...God is Who He is....people simply need to be made aware of their ignorance....especially when they still believe radioisotope dating and "millions of years" is "as accurate as a swiss watch"

regardless, I've been booted out of the lounge and DoO and I agree it was time to move on....the creation/evolution "debates" (really there is no debate other than to state the obvious, that evolution is religion for delusional atheists) in the lounge were fun a few years ago, but it quickly degraded to a flame war from the microbes to man zealots

with regard to the topic at hand, I agree that supporting the forum financially would likely increase the overall professionalism of the site and weed out the chaff...I've supported the RX-7 store over the years (just picked up a new BOV for my custom Garfinkle y-pipe ) but charging a nominal fee for use of the forum, if it improves performance and professionalism, would not bother me a bit
