I think I get his point, though. The stupid people demand the RIGHT to continue being stupid, free from regulation and persecution.

Actually, I've gotten together several times with Norcal guys and have made several friends. I have no interest in being a member of a community whose main source of amusement seems to be calling each other gay.

heehee. Everyone's getting so worked up. Funny thing is, I don't see too many complaints in the West Section about any of this stuff. Seems like the only people that complain about it are the ones that don't ever use it.
I'm sure you can argue that you never use the West Section because of all the postwhoring, but do you really feel like you're personally being affected?
It's been stated that the NorCal posts aren't messed with, so if it doesn't really affect you, what is your complaint? Are you upset that other people aren't upset at us? I mean, the people that are affected (SoCal folks) generally don't seem to mind all the fun-poking. Seems to me that you're more upset that we're having fun in "your" section.
Anyhoo, if we get out of line, feel free to voice your opinion on that particular thread. If enough people agree with you, I'm sure there will be some changes in peoples' behaviors.
You guys have a good one. I'm off to the West Section to ***** up some more threads.

how about a new sign up process where the user will see a picture of text (prevents c&p'ing) that they need to type into a window. it should state that they must at least read the damn FAQ threads in any forum they post in, and should investigate the sites linked to in such threads.
it could also include a pledge not to type in ebonics or excessive l33t speak.

I also think a paragraph or two on "successful searching" on the search page would help a lot.

However, sometimes I use usernames for searches instead of keywords. In those cases, there are no keywords I used for my search, I simply remembered a specific person with a problems or solution. Actually, well over half of my searches are done that way.

I remember a friend of rxrotary2_7 coming on the forum and asking about a CF hatch. He only had 2-3 posts total and members flamed him. Then they found out he was building a race car and what he had done in the past, so they spent another day apologizing to the guy.
If the person posting the thread is posting in "slang", ignore it. Flaming the person or writing other non-constructive things doesn't make it any better. It just puts that person on the defensive and starts arguments.
I know I've mentioned it before, but here it goes: If the post is dumb, ignore it. Posting in it only bumps it right back up to the top, keeping it on the front page of the forum.

What we DO need to do to improve the experience for everyone is do a better job of "automating" that help. The Search screen can be made more usable by adding some basic suggestions for narrowing a search to increase the probability of success. I think a lot of the "I searched but couldn't find" posts are the direct result of people who just don't know how to use a search engine effectively. Let's teach them how instead of doing it for them.
I DO believe we should limit posts in the "entertainment" forums (lounge, difference of opinion, etc.). There is no legitimate reason why anyone needs to make 20+ posts in the lounge in a single day. I think Defprun's record was in the 50s. That's not indicative of the behavior of someone who is here for help or to share knowledge. It's just someone killing time because they don't have anything better to do. Also, odds are EXCELLENT that they've never made a contribution to the forum and probably aren't potential customers of the RX-7 Store or other forum vendors. Let's limit people's ability to waste bandwidth without regulation just for their own amusement.
1. Eliminate attachments in the lounge and difference of opinion forums.
2. Eliminate signatures in the lounge and difference of opinion forums.
3. Limit posts per day, if possible, in the lounge and difference of opinion forums.
If people actually have to think about making their posts count, perhaps the content will improve somewhat. At the very least, the whoring and endless stream of crap from members like Sterling and YZF-R1 will end or at least become a slow trickle.
We have had members join who while were new to the forum, they were definitely not new to RX-7's.

Bottom line, we just need more regulation to keep the content quality higher. After awhile, people will get the idea and less moderation will be required. You'll still get the occasional problem, but it won't be anywhere near as bad as the beginning will inevitably be. Of course, if you don't make a start somewhere, nothing ever improves.
I'm more than willing to help moderate the 3rd gen. forum if anyone thinks that's a good idea.

Most of use use some sort of slang ourselves: IIRC, IMO, etc... Some people just except certain types more than others.

Still, it's not slang that I object to. It's someone who takes the absolute least amount of effort to post for help and yet expects everyone to drop everything and come running, like the clock watchers...
10:45 - I need help!
11:02 - bump
11:26 - What, no one is going to help me?
11:51 - Screw you guys, FD owners are a bunch of stuck up snobs!!
And then you've got the 1,001 word single paragraph run-on sentence drive-by...
i was driving from kincardine to Chesley to pick up my lowering springs from Joe's place. I met Joe, Luke, Schmo, Bill, and a guy i forget his name at Luke's place in Walkerton. Bill owns a 2002 Blue Subaru WRX. He loves the car, its absolutely mint. Full exhaust and intake, mint everything, absolutely beautiful car. We hung around for like 2 hours just talking about cars and stuff; just chilling and having a good time. Then we decided to go to Hanover to get some food at a McDonald's there. I was in the lead with Luke in the passenger seat, and Bill was behind with Joe in the passenger seat, Schmo and the other guy in the back. Anyways we were following the speed limit along the road to Hanover and Bill was behind. He flashed his highs and i was like what the hell whay not, knowing he would kill me....so i hit third and punched it, and Bill was right behind. As my speedo hit 160 (100mph) i shifted hard into fourth....at the same time Bill finally hit boost (i hought he would catch me much sooner) and passed me. My speedo was saying 180 (~110mph) at this point. I kept accelerating and he started to pull in in front of me. Plobably in the neighborhood of 200 kmh. Anyways we were going around a gentle bend and as Bill pulled in in front of me i he just lost control. He swerved once and i thought he was going to hang on to her, but then he swerved sharply into the guardrail on the right...he then bounced of and hit it REALLY hard. Then sparks started to fly and it was a blur. Dust from the gravel went everywhere and I was dodging parts of WRX....I actually ran over his front bumper after it fell off from the first hit. Bill ended up sideways in front of a driveway right after the guardrail ended. Luckily it didn't roll. I stopped about 5 feet from them, thank GOD for 4 piston calipers! Bills horn was blaring. Me and luke hopped out of the car....the whole time Luke was saying "no way, no way, no way" and i was saying "******* **** fuckfuckfuck"....we ran up and Bill got out...his side of the car was fine, the passenger side was all fucked though....anyways i asked if he was okay and all he could do was Scream and kick the car. Both front airbags had went off in the accident. Joe was in the passenger seat, his window shattered and there was glass everywhere....he was fine though and he pried the door open, reached over and popped the hood, and then disconnected the battery so the horn would stop. Schmo and the other guy were fine too. We all got out and surveyed the damage while Bill kept screaming. All the doors on that side of the car were screwed. The windshield was broken. Joe's window was shattered and there was glass in his shoe and some glass in schmo's hood too. The rignt front fender was pushed right in, the headlight and whole front bumper and foglights and everything were all over the road behind us. The right front CV shaft was ripped right out of the tranny and broken in half. The rear suspension mount was torn right off of the body. Both brand new Volk rims on that side of the car were completely fucked, as were the michelin pilots on that side of the car. Hood was screwed too. Bill said he was still doing 180 when he struck the guardrail. 7 posts from the guardrail were gone. Luckily the wires held and Bill didn't go down the hill. Some crazy people from the trailer park it happened in front of had called 911, so soon the cops and ambulance were there. They didn't question me or Luke. Bill told them that he is pretty sure he blew out a tire because a street racing fine is not what either of us needed. We had got our story straight before the cops got there so joe, luke and schmo said the same thing. Some stupid stoned chick came over and looked and said the mirror was broken, i was ready to punch her in the face for being so friggin stupid. So since we neede to get home, me and Luke went to Walkerton to pick up the Jetta so everyone could get home. We got back and the Subaru was loaded on a flatbed and Bill was still in the cop car, the other three were still stading around. Eventually we got the car back to Joe's place, but it's definitely a write off. Holy crap what a thing too happen right in front of you!...If we hadn't of gone to mcdonald's nothing would have happened. (all this over a burger!)...and if the gas station had of been open i would have stopped for gas and nothing would have happened.....Jesus.
And the "how old are you/who paid for your car" brag fests, and the pointless FD vs. Car X threads, and the "how much horsepower will these mods give me" threads, and the "how much does a 26B conversion cost" threads, and...

Yep, those are the post to avoid. My favorite saying: Don't feed the trolls.
If no one responds to them, they'll die out. Most of those people are just looking for attention and this forum has more than enough for them unfortunately. If people wouldn't egg them on, they would have no reason to stick around.
Well, unfortunately we'll never be rid of those kinds of posts. Some things we just have to live with.

Obviously "ignore them, they'll go away" doesn't work, so what's the next best option, short of feeding them some rat poison?

is there an option on this forum where you could ignore people you dont like? say some kid comes on, makes a few posts. you decide not to like them, i never want to see another post from him again, and i dont want to see him respond to my posts. they wouldnt have to know. might work.
