You can be 16, 25, 37 or 49 and still be a dipshit. Threads like this compound the problem and just cause arguments. The only thing this accomplished was showing that you can whine on the internet. I do not deny that immature people cause problems, but the simple fact is that you choose what you read/respond to. If you have a problem with what youre reading, dont:
a)click on the topic
b)read the posts in the thread
or c)respond.
The problem is solved.

Ignoring something only allows it to become larger. Some of us would like to see something done. Sending a PM to a mod or two doesn't get much done, not that it is their fault.

To the top two guys, besides diablone.
You have two choices.
1. We shut the **** up and LEAVE.
2. We continue bitching about it until something happens. If it becomes apparent nothing will change - then we either leave entirely, or a part of us does.

Edit: If you really want to weed people out of the forray, charge a membership fee, its the best way to cut out the idiots.

...In its own right, this thread wouldn't be out of place in the lounge.

boohoohooooo..
JIMlab, I love you man, whats with the anger??
and FYI my .02cent is worth 2cent.. TYVM
Why don't all you inner circle RX7club members.
just make your own section, better yet, make yourown internet site.. Since you guys know it all already.
hell, just create your own circle jerk..
If someone is having problems and want to ask for HELP. what is it to you?? or anyone else..
The fact of the matter is.. We are all humans,
and controlling people's actions is very improbable
if not impossible, especially on the internet.
This thread total waste of bandwidth.
Jason.. To create more room and bandwidth..
Why dn't you start deleting some OLD post and pictures.
have like a 2 year backlog instead of EVERYthing..??

I have to partly agree with jimlab that Mahjik might be an enabler, tho its probobly not his intention BUT if Mahjik didnt do all the job he does there would probobly be ALOT less good posts here on the forum with good information.
I do hope Mahjik will continue, but something probobly will have to be done to reduce his load. So the question is what.
I know its easyer to flame but do try to come up with suggestions. I mean you hopefully have a car that have/had needed you to be inoative to keep it happy.
hmmm maybe treat this forum as a kinky FD with strange problems that need to be solved to be able to run at 12+ psi??
Like i said in a post before, my suggestion is:
make the diffrent gen forum in 2 diffrent subforums
one general thats like the gen forums is today
and
one tech with post like "this is how i solved this problem"
Saw jason had a sugestion of makeing just one subforum with general tech with tech questions and the rest stays where it is.
I think this is A way to go, it isnt perfect (but what in life is?) but good enuff to make a serious try with it.
hmmm come think of it, Jason's suggestion is better then mine.

How about the idea we had discussed before:
Turn the Archive section into the "Advanced Topics" section?
What we had talked about was making the Archive section the "Advanced Topics" section. This would not be restricted but would not contain the normal posts such as "what mods next", "what's the best exhaust", etc..
Right now the Archive section is read only. While it does have very good posts in there, it would be helpful to expand on some of the ideas already in there without needing to create a new thread.
Now as rxrotary2_7 mentioned, we do have lives outside this forum so there would be times that messages aren't moved in or out of the "Advanced" in a "timely manner". It could be kept moderated well but it will still require the help of everyone to make it work.
BTW, thanks for the props guys! I provide the links to show people that the information usually already exist here. I hope they see that the search function can work and begin to use it (I did say "hope" ).
I do realize that sometimes I'm able to find threads that are more useful in searching that others at times. This is because I usually remember a member's name who had the problem or offered a solution. Searching with that user's name allows me to narrow my searches down more than just using keywords alone. There, my secret is out; I have a good memory (because I've been hanging around here for a while).

i second the wait period between signup and post-ability, and the advanced section. Not to mention, you could have it initally passworded and have to PM a mod to get in, so a mod could help weed out idiotic users to begin with.

Yeah, I agree with some guidelines on posting. I've been a member for over two years and have totaled about 30 posts, but I still check the 3rd gen section every day or several times a week. I've gone threw a blown engine, cracked radiator, split coolant lines, boost problems, and exterior problems. Those are all common problems that most people have had on here, and the search function has helped me out on almost every one of them along with all the how-to sites. I applaud the people who direct others to searches and also the ones who provide detailed explanations of problems and solutions. Those are the posts that help people save money on expensive labor costs. Most of the other posts are like pennies in a change jar that don't amount up to much at all.
A few questions and comments I have:
How can the moderators lead normal jobs? I dont see how its possible given the amount of editing and troubleshooting dealt out by them
Who provides the funding for this site? I had never thought about that or how much advertising brings in compared to the total cost. Maybe the people who provide funding and the moderators should be the only ones making any new rules regarding these hassles.

Jason owns the site as well as RX7 Store. I'm sure that while advertising helps offset the costs of running the forum it doesn't pay for itself at all.
This forum has gone downhill from when I remember browsing it when I was debating between buying a FD or VR4 a year and half ago. Since then, I kept the VR4 and added a FD then came back to this site and noticed the quality of posts has dramatically decreased.
The only solution I can think of is just flat out ignoring stupid posts and letting a mod delete them when they have time to notice. I also wholeheartedly agree with Jim that images should NOT be allowed to be posted in the lounge using forum bandwidth. If someone feels the need to post images there then they can find a hosting service for those images. Pics should only be allowed in tech sections.

If you do a search for someone, you might consider posting the keyword(s) you used to find the results. I've done that a few times in the past and hopefully a few people learn from that how to do it for themselves. I also think a paragraph or two on "successful searching" on the search page would help a lot.

Lives on the Forum
As one of the grumpy old men on this forum, I really like this thread
I hate it when people post in all lower case letters like keynote22 does. Jeez, Aron, use the shift key. It's not that hard is it?
Hey Jim, lose the smileys. We know you don't really mean them. You're just being polite LOL.
My strategy is to ignore the dumb threads, and hope they will get buried. The problem is when we post on the dumb threads, describing how dumb the thread is (I'm guilty of this), we just keep that dumb thread alive. We must resist the temptation to flame the dumb poster LOL.
Kevin, the ASP large IC core is a heavy sucker. That thing weighs like 20 lbs! I forgot to mention that in another thread I responded to you in LOL.

I simply ignore the thread and don't post in it. It will go away eventually.

I have witnessed this exact same thing happen on a few different forums in the past. It's sad that things degrade so much over time. There are a couple solutions I can think of:
1. Create a better FAQ / intro section. There is a LOT of great advice and valuable info floating around on these forums. Many people who visit here lack the knowledge to search for this info properly, and they end up asking stupid questions and pissing off the senior members. A well-organized, alphabetized FAQ system should resolve the issue by solving the problems of the 'unwanted' easily. Hopefully, the riff-raff will never feel the need to an account. I helped organize such a FAQ on www.hardforums.com (a computer forum) a few years ago. I would provide a link but they're down for maintenance right now.
2. More moderators, and more moderation. Give some of the senior members limited moderator abilities, let them close threads if they see fit. This could either work very well, or be a complete disaster, depending on who is given power and how well they handle it.
3. If all else fails, a membership fee system is what I would consider as a last resort. This WILL cause some of the current members to quit, and you might lose some valuable members, but even a simple $5 / year membership will prevent a lot of the riff-raff from ever appearing. It could also help solve some of the server problems, if the money was put towards that.
Good luck,

Kill the lounge. It isn't needed. This is a forum for posting RX-7 knowledge, not whatever the funniest new thing you have discovered on the internet. That will help with server load.
