Forum?

It seems we are being inundated more than ever right now with 16 year old kids who seriously cannot spell nor can they search.

It is really trying my patience and I know I am not alone here.

[sarcasm]
yo bra u dun nud 2 lurn 2 spel cuz u can jus steel sheit n race fo $$
[/sarcasm]

I think its the added fame the FD recieved in their dream movies of F&F and 2F&2F except after 2 they all want a JDM FD now because JDM is "da sheeeeeeeit man, phat skyline ownz all!". Combine that with the fact you can pick one up now in bad condition for 6-11k and kids think they can afford one. Oh well the wave can't go on too long since the # of FDs on the road keeps going down (either due to wrecks or people buying them and not being able to afford to keep it running). If they know whats wrong but are just broke they won't be posting stupid stuff like 'can i du a 700 shot of nawwwwz on my car?'.

By kids I don't mean age. Anyone showing the level of maturity clayne referred to is a kid. You could grow up at 15 or you might never grow up.

Yea, all of that is known pretty much. But it has made a steep growth in just a couple of months.

I for one, do not want to enable or support it, personally.

I was thinking the same thing. The scariest thing is you really can't tell if they're a troll or just a particularly stupid young person.

You are not alone. If someone cannot take the time to put their request in a reasonable form, I don't respond ...... with anything helpful They can take the advice from those who also write in "garbage".

Is there anything you can do about it though? short of having some kind of quiz/test/phone interview to screen new members? Or just have a filter that goes through teh posts and autobans someone with F&F quotes in their profiles, or uses |337 speek excessively.

But it is getting out of hand, I've been browsing/lurking for the last two years since I decided I wanted a 7, figuring that should learn as much as I could before I bought it, and theres been a noticible influx of asshats who are bringing the general quality of the forum down. Couple that with the now-almost-daily Age/BOV sound opinion/what color shoudl i paint my car threads, and its not looking good...

It's beyond annoying but not much you can do.. Just kinda ignore the newbie titled questions and answer as a smart *** to those titles that get you to open the thread, only to find a jibberish within..

Even though i'm not to far off from 16, 19, i still also agree that the isssues with how one speaks is really bothersom, to me it shows a lack of class and presents an over all image of a person that would rice out a FD, not take care of it and then crash it into a poll. I know sometimes I'm in a rush so i might have some typos and grammar errors in my post but i trying to slim those down. Maybe if whenever you click "new thread" you will be asked if you have searched on what you are going to ask then that way it might slim down some of the post.

what i would like to see is a private section on here. like you have to have over 1000 post or be invited in. I honestly dont think I cant handle seeing one more DP thread, or which is the best BOV for the FD i dont own.....gaabahhhh

I honestly think there should be a waiting period (30 days? 60 days?) before you are able to start a new thread. Every time they click "new thread" they should be directed to the search page. They are unlikely to register and then just wait out that time. If they can't post, they'll probably read. If they read, they'll see that there are a lot of answers out there and they don't have to post. If they do wait for the mandatory time, don't read, and still post something stupid then they deserve to be

Just an idea...

well lucky for us in australia, no one can afford one in that age range, or get insurance for it.
around $35k aud for the car and around $4k aud in insurance a year, and everyone that can afford it would most likely buy a high level benz.

I am 19 and when I am asking a question I try to spell everything right so I look somewhat intelligent. However I think I have asked maybe two questions both of which were about buying a FD. I was plannig on buying one sometime down the road when I know more about the cars. But if one, that is what I want, is up for sale around where I live, I will try and buy it. I did find one but am not sure about getting it yet. About the insurance thing anyone who is 16 and having any nice car is probably not paying for it so insurance would not be a concern. I know with me that I would have the car on my dads insurance because it is cheaper and it is his idea. I will be paying for my own car with a loan from my parents (my dad's idea again). I have almost all the money to buy one but I don't want to spend everything I have on the car and be broke when the car breaks. I have learned a lot just from reading and still have a lot to learn. I don't know why people ask first, I read the stickies first and did not seem to have a problem with it. Anyways that is just my $.02 from a newbie.

Dumb people don't read on their own. Period.

As for grammar/spelling. Nobody cares if you mistype "the" as "teh" a few times, or if you forget a comma once in a while. It's the l337-speak, 250 word runon sentances, and 50 sentance posts without paragraphs that make people tired of reading the forum.

I, for one, think the stickies should be displayed in a font 3x larger than the rest, with flashing colors, in that naked-women font.

In light of the previous thread of this nature: I think a simple, randomized "Driver's Ed." style test based off a sticky/faq should be required for posting priveleges. I'm sure I'm not the originator of this idea.

I think having post count as a qualifier would only encourage inane posting (a.k.a. post-whoring) in other parts of the forum.

Yep.

"I have almost all the money to buy one but I don't want to spend everything I have on the car and be broke when the car breaks."

Which is exactly why you shouldn't be buying an FD3S.

Will the external image ego boost you get be worth the money you pour into it?

With my school being out for summer my free time increased a lot so i have been reading this site more and the more i read the more i want to get one while getting scared away be some of the threads on here. I dont know if i will ever get one but who knows. And i figured i was part of the problem you guys were talking about and relized that was a dumb post but the 30 min edit thing stopped me from deleting it. oh well.

And you have been trolling this forum perpetuating the very problem this thread speaks about for A YEAR.

Once again, perpetuating the problem.

He apologizes but making ANOTHER dumb post. This guy is the epitome of what this thread talks about. He doesn't own a car, he doesn't have the means to own one, he is scared of the car, and he will probably NEVER own one.

Certain sites like honda-tech.com have a trial user period where people cannot post more than 5 posts per day, no PM's are allowed, no posting in classifieds, etc. Not quite what you were asking for, but it does help with the signal to noise ratio.

When I joined here, I was expecting to see an older and generally more mature crowd than what I've seen in the Honda scene. That doesn't seem to be the case at all. I am really shocked at how many young people own this car.
