Fixed my car today! (at least runnable..)
I got my FD 5,6 months ago. The car was in a great shape. It drove fine and the interior was immaculate! Only problem was that it made quite loud clunking noise in the back whenever I drove on the less-than-perfectly-paved road. The noise worsened as time went on and I found out that it was one (or more) bushing in the rear. I didn't have money and I didn't know where to get bushings besides the dealer. (they charge $99 each).
Anyhow, I drove my baby like that for a while until that is.........I got into an accident. It was about a month ago. It was pouring here in LA and I drove carefully, most of the times. But once I just got bored and punched on the gas. I never drove a turboed-vehicle in the rain. (later I found out that my tire pressure was way too low as well). Anyways to make the long story short, I lost control of my car totally and I spun out!! I did more than a 360. This happened in front of a toll booth, so there was not any car in front of me. I hit the curb and landed on the other side of the road. I didn't get hurt and no one hit me. I was fine. And the car was not damaged too much.
Nonetheless, I had 2 flat tires. My alignment was gone (totally).
3 weeks have passed until I started my "restoring" process. I got new tires and mounted them. I tried to align the car, but strongly thought that it was the time to change the bushings. So I got some new pillowball bushings. And today, I replaced the old ones with the new ones and aligned it.
My car is noise-free and drives like brand new!!! I'm so very happy. There still is a reminder of the accident on my driver side door, fender and so forth. But it drives like a dream.
Btw, the charged $180 for replacing 3 bushings. ( i had the bushings, of course) Was I ripped off? or is this normal?
Total:
Tires $ 270
Mounting : $ 70
Bushings : $ 350
Alignment : $ 55
Replacing the bushings : $ 190
(* I spent over $ 900 in the last 10 days. Wheeeeee. I'm so broke!)
Some pictures of my old replaced bushigns (pillow-ball)
I have 3 new ones for sale ($60 each shipped).
Thanks for reading.
btw you people at the forum have helped me a lot with different stuff in my restoration process, so thanks.
