Finally planning to come back to the FD
It's been a while since I've been on here, but I've decided to sell my 700hp C6Z06 and come back to the FD community. The FD has a terrible gravitational effect on me....I know they are trouble, but I just like them. Looking forward to re-joining the community. See you guys soon.
Soon to be shopping for a 93 CYM or a 95 Silver R2. If you're gonna buy another FD, I might as well be shopping for a rare one. So if anyone has any leads on some amazing FD's, please let me know. I will not be shopping for a worn out FD, must be a low mileage excellent example of an FD, stock or modified, but it must be clean.
No real goals for the car so to speak, probably keep it south of 400hp, small quick spooling single turbo, stock port motor, suspension, wheels, and all the necessary components to build a fantastic FD that I can be proud to own.

Nice to see you back on here. The C6Z bug has bitten me lately as well, been shopping a bit and lurking on some forums. But decided to carry on with my 20B project and just possibly pick up the C6 in addition to it later down the road. Mind if I ask what had prompted you to sell the Z?

Dunno...it's a great car, probably one of my favorite cars. I just don't have a passion for it. To me the C6Z, the Viper, AMG, etc...are all great cars, but they are just cars. I was talking with Kyle (twokrx7) about this earlier today and the FD with all it's issues and problems has a personality about it. I don't truly miss looking in my rear view mirror after a hard pull looking for smoke, wondering if the car will idle at the next stop light, etc...but I do miss owning a car that has that special quality that makes you appreciate the good times. The C6Z for instance is almost entirely composed of "good times" so you take it all for granted. Get in, drive away, go racing, come home, park it, repeat....which is fantastic. But it's just a car, just like my daily driver or any other car. The FD seemed more like a family member. You get into fights, arguments, don't talk to each other for a while, finally calm down, and get back to loving each other again. lol It just has that "it" factor that I've never found anywhere else.

I am not going to pay that much for a CYM just because it's never been modified. I'm debating a 20b swap into the car, so it will be anything but stock...but it still must be clean with good paint, clean interior, and well taken care of. I think you have a CYM that sounds like that....hell, I think you have two.

Just got home from helping a friend drop his 200r4 from his LS1 FD....amazing how easy these cars are to work on compared to my Z06. Definitely looking forward to the next DGRR event. Trying to convince another former RX7 guy to get back on the horse. We've both grown up since owning the RX7's, but hopefully I can talk him into it....misery loves company after all.

Wow. I've actually been thinking of picking up a c6 zo6 at some point. I love that car. That and the ZR1 were the inspiration for my ls1 fd. I love torque... ever think of putting an LS in an FD? Sounds like you've been around them, I think twokrx7 has one IIRC. Reason I wanted a zo6 was for modern creature comforts and a quiet cabin... when I drive my fd, I'm always on kill mode cuz it keeps taunting me... "let's go, let's go!" Seems like the vettes are a lot more subdued until you step on it. The ONLY two problems I have the the vettes are: 1) they are a little too big for me (I'm micro sized, about 5'4" 150 lbs); 2) they are sort of common (although I see a c6 zo6 maybe once a month, a zr1 hardly ever... not counting my buddy from work).

FDs are like that bitchy cheating high dollar gold digger girl friend that is awesome in bed that you just can't stay away from.
I just sold mine and I'm trying to find any excuse not to get another.

Be good to have you back in the rotary community, I'll keep my eyes peeled for ya

Thanks guys. I'm trying to convince an old friend of mine to get back into the rotary game as well. Hopefully I'll get his *** out to Deal's Gap with me next spring. I figure if you're going to get back into the Rotary swing of things, you might as well go to the DGRR since Sevenstock is so damn far away for me. Used to go the Rotary Revolution when I lived in Missouri, but now that I'm in Houston, all I go to is the TX2k events.

Nice to see you back... Saw a post on another thread and then discovered this one. I too have considered a Z06 over the years and drove a few. Never pulled the trigger and am finally working on the FD build I've collected parts for over the last 6-7 years.
I too have been thinking about DGRR so who knows...

The C6Z for instance, most engine bays look identical. Most cars look stock on the outside. Truly the only thing you can do to a C6Z is wheels for the most part. Same with the Supra...most engine bays end up looking the same, and most body kits look terrible...so most people, with nice ones at least, leave them stock.
The FD on the other hand has multiple different ways for the engine bay to look...so you can go to DGRR or a large RX7 meet and see all sorts of different intercooler setups, piping setups, engine swaps, different manifolds, wiring relocations, etc... The exterior can be modified from stock to extreme and if done right can look amazing. It is simply the best blank canvas out there to express yourself with and be proud of the work you created from understated stock, to crazy RE-Ad 9 N1 widebody stuff with vented hoods, big wings, different wheels, etc....it's all personal preference and unlike other cars the FD can pull it off.

It will be cool to have another member rejoin the group. I have to say I have grown up around vettes, from the '67 427 Stingray my dad had when I was a kid (god I want one of those still to this day...) to the new ZR1.
I love my FD. It is exactly as you described, like a great pair of old shoes that fits great, and does everything you need it to do. Sure a 400whp FD is not the fastest car around, but it is pretty damn fast and waaaaaay fun to drive.
I have yet to get in a C6Z, but have tossed around the idea of it being a great fun track car. Really just for the reason you mentioned, beat on it, drive it home, and don't think twice about it.. As much of a blast as the FD is on a track, "that feeling" of something atrocious happening is always looming in the back of my mind.
Since you mention the poor steering feel in the vette, I will most definitely recommend a manual rack for your future FD. One of the best mods I have done to my FD... Simply amazing...

Spend the money for a new wiring harness, new injectors, new coils and replace all coolant lines and there is little to worry about. Of course it us a 20 year old car still so some minor stuff will arise. Since running ALS seals I never worry about a bouncing low idle after letting off the throttle. . Obviously there is more to the formula than just good seals, but if you were rocking a c6Z you have the money to build a Fd correctly.
Also, stick with the stock ports. It just makes the car so much nicer to drive. Good luck in your hunt.

Which FD are you building this time? Do you still live in Austin? I thought I remembered that you moved.

My C6Z is an all motor car with a built motor 427 with a high compression/heads on E85. My goal was to hit a 9 sec pass all motor and then we built the motor for nitrous on top of that....but I'm just not sure after building it if this is what I want. I was really hoping that building this car the way I wanted it would make it my own car, but I feel like I'm just driving a C6Z like all the rest, just louder and faster than most all motor cars....and after building it for nitrous, I think I should have built it for boost. I miss the feel of boost. I don't know, I like the car, but I miss the RX7 feel...who knows. I've had no luck selling the Z as of yet, but the market is just soft right now especially for an E85 built motor car. My buying market is pretty small.

Idk, im trying deep and hard to find out how you can go back to an FD from a monster C6Z. Having it as an addition is one thing but going back to the FD, IMHO its a downgrade. You werent driving a stock Z, it was insanely modified. Its more modern, more comfy (yes i been in it), more reliable, more usable torque, and in some aspects, more exotic looking.
Not saying the Z is a better car. Thats opinionated. Neither car is better. They're 2 different animals. I cant see having to go from what you had, back to an FD. Unless you A: needed the money, B: cant handle the power, or C: Exactly what you said, dont wanna be like the rest and simply love the FD for its rarity.
That goes back to what i said in the other thread. (this is not towards you lane_change) that people hold onto the FD just for some satisfaction of owning a rare piece. Even if its down or broken and hardly driven, you keep the car because you want to have that sense of gratification when someone talks about cars, then you get to mention the all rare, timeless styling FD. And how great it is to own it.
