FD's in SCC's Ultimate Street Car Challenge
Not to be confused with any other mag car challenge, Im referring to the Sport Compact Car Magazines annual 'Ultimate Street Car Challenge'
http://sportcompactcarweb.com/uscc/
In another thread there was alot of confusion about which contest.
Now, every year in the voting I always see a handful of nicely prepped FD's but wonder why non ever show up in the actual finalists to compete? Im sure atleast 1 gets the votes.
Granted alot of the FD's in the list of entrants could fly down the 1/4mile pushing 120mph+ with big T78's they could hang with the might HP of the SUpras in the contest, but the competition is about balance.
Doing well in a road race, being daily drivable, stopping power, dyno results, looking good, etc..
I read the mag and try to keep up with how the cars perform in the test to see if theres a reason the FD's that entered couldnt hang. And my assumption is Hell yeah they could hang!
Historically on the Dyno Parts of the comp. there are claims for 1000hp and what not. But Ive seen that with alteast 400rwhp you can place in the top 4.
As for the Acceleration Test. most of us could be in the top 4!
*data below taken from Contest #2*
Quarter-Mile Time
RANK CAR TIME SCORE PEANUT GALLERY
1 Mitsu Eclipse 11.16 sec. 100 Heavy wheels. So what
2 Nissan Skyline 11.66 sec. 87 Almost stock
3 Dodge Viper 12.22 sec. 73 American muscle
4 Toyota Supra 12.62 sec. 63 Had the flu
5 Datsun 510 13.15 sec. 50 Giant killer
----------------------------------------------------------
So you guys who can drive, own some road racing slicks, have a quick spoolin RX6 single, daily drive it, can run 11's, can pull atleast 1.0 lat G, and have it in show quality.. Have a great chance to not only be a finalist, but win it!

Those results you posted I believe are from a previous year in which the day that the passes took place was at Irwindale speedway in which track temperatures were around 100 F.
So those numbers were basically performed on a 100 degree day.

and they already picked this year's challengers. apparently 7 out of the 10 picked backed out for whatever reason. they have a 1000hp viper, couple of unimpressively modded supras, that james chen guy in a 350z, couple eclipses, an ultima gtr, etc...

Yeah, I had to use the last results because those are the latest ones finalized.
The cars for the 3rd Contest ever (the latest) have been chosen, infact some guy on the board claims to already know who won. But Im not quite sure when its taking place, if it hasnt already.
Either way, the bottom line, We Need an FD in there!
whos it goin to be?!

Most of the competitors know the magazine real well and get a chance to compete if one of the people selected can't show. I think an FD would do extremely well givin the right setup, build quality, and driver. I'm hoping to compete once I'm done building, I know a few of the guys that work with the competition.
I remember another competition that was also in SCC that a pretty much stock FD killed everyone in. It was like the BFGoodrich Tire challenge or something like that, I'll try to find it in my Mag Pile. The guy who one was an active SCCA racer if I remember right and only had suspension upgrades, intake, exhaust and a Power FC, I may be wrong on some of that but he didn't have much done. Stock twins and everything, but killed all the other competitors and the heat was incedible that day I believe. I'll try to find it when I get home tonight.

One of our customers just entered for next year with Steve driving. dual ball bearing T66, full exhaust w/our custom 3.5 inch d/p, ASP Race IC, ported motor, HKS suspension, AEM engine management, upgraded brakes, etc. I think he has a great shot at mopping up the performance categories (esp with stevo driving) if we can vote him in. I'll let him chime in.......
