FD3S Practicality

as soon as you mod... gas mileage is gone. that said you CAN tune for gas mileage. But you have to remember, its a sports car, whats more its a ROTARY sports car... its not really designed for gas mileage.
as for those figures, they're not really accurate. im seeing like... 15 mpg around town... although last year on an almost completely stock engine i saw 25 mpg on the highway.

I drive my RX7 FD 4 of 7 days, the other days I ride a bike. Stock Twin Turbos with Turboback, PowerFC, and fully upgraded Radiator system, and it really doesn't give me any **** except the occasionaly flood out which simpy takes about 5 minutes to clear up!

Wait a minute. See, it's posts like this that peg my Skept-O-Meter.
You daily drove a Z06, and now you're *going to get* a 15 year old FD and drive the **** out of it? Uh-huh.
This is like some guy in a bar who claims he used to date Carmen Elektra but he dumped her for the chubby waitress with the tramp stamp, and fellas, "I'm gonna
f**k the s**t out of her."

I found the answer to daily driving an FD!
Tonight as I was trying to change out my ECU, as I was trying to stuff all 6'2", 185lbs of me into a space the size of two Kleenex boxes, I finally pulled the passenger seat out of the car in frustration. It gave me more room to work upside down and backwards but then I also realized that without the passenger seat, I can fit my briefcase, laptop, and file box in the car too drive to the office!
Who needs a passenger seat anyway? Passengers just distract me from the sound of the RB dual tip anyway.

Here is my 240.

Here is my current DD.
So yes, whenever I get rid of the wife's IS300. She will start driving the Z and I will get an FD and DD the crap out of it. Good enough for you?

I wouldn't take it personally...even you have to admit there a lot of "talk" that gets slung around the internet. To most of us we know you are a Sarusang from AZ...could be real estate mogule or some punk *** 16 year old Counter-Stike addict.

Not really. Anybody can post pics of cars. Your claim raises some natural questions. Why would someone dump a Z06 for a 15 year old car that's slower?
I like my FD, but I'm not stupid. Offer me a faster, newer, (and dare I say it--more reliable) car and it's yours.
The needle on my Skept-O-Meter remains pegged.

His statements raise questions about his honesty or judgment....maybe both.
At the very least when he says he's going to get a 13-15 year old FD and "daily drive the crap out of it" you know he doesn't know enough about these cars.
If you don't have a certain degree of skepticism about some of the claims made on internet forums then you are a fool.

The FD I'm getting can be and will be daily driven. I know quite a bit about the car, enough to know that DD'ing an FD is no walk in the park. However, this thread is 3 pages long with several people attesting to the practicality of daily driving the RX7. Space wise, it is no worse than my Z. Or even the Z06 for that matter. Hell, I had a JDM swapped WRX with a massive turbo tuned for 101 octane that I daily drove. And unless your car is a poorly maintained rust bucket POS, there is no reason whatsoever that you wouldn't be able to DD it. I've owned at least 4 cars since the Z06, so I'm in no way "dump a Z06 for a 15 year old car that's slower". As if my FD is going to stay stock. Anyway, /end rant. And I apologize to the thread starter who was looking for legitimate information on the practicality of the cars and not a collection of some people's opinions.

So, you're going to mod your FD (when you get it) and "daily drive the crap out of it." LOL!
I've been on this forum a long time. I've seen people like you come and go.
When their car sits inoperable in the driveway they come back blaming the previous owner, the tuner, or claim that the FD is inherently "unreliable."
They fill up the forum with bitches and moans and desperate pleas for help.
They never say they were uninformed when they bought the car or had unreasonable expectations about how reliable a modified and daily driven FD would be.
It's an old story. Yours is just the latest chapter.
And yes, a 15 year old FD is slower and more prone to catastrophic engine failure than a Z06. You may like the chubby waitress with the tramp stamp, but she's not a step up from Carmen Elecktra.
