Talking The FD3S, according to 1992 September Consumer Reports!

..."We could fit only one Pullman case or a couple of weekend bags under the hatch. A FOLDED WHEELCHAIR WON'T GO IN..." (Ya, this car is probably not a good choice for Granny)

"We predict only average reliablity for this model."
(Wishfull thinking, but then, what would we all do with our spare time and money?)

"The driver can see out much better than from the RX-7 than from the 300ZX or Corvette". (I can still see them really well in my rear view mirror)

"The two horn buttons on the spokes of the steering wheel are easy to bump inadvertently" (Huh? Never done that in 10 years myself...)

They went on and on and on. But they did say "The RX-7 handles twisty, narrow roads with aplomb".

That's all I needed. SOLD!

I typically look at anything from Consumer Reports with deep suspicion, but at least they got the last part right!

Yeah, you got to love a magazine that reviews cars with the same enthusiasm as reviewing a dishwasher.

I do love the line that they can't fit a folded wheelchair. WTF? I am perfectly able-bodied and I STILL think it's a pain in the *** to get and out of the car.

I have owned three cars with the two spoke-mounted horn buttons (FD, two 626s) and have only hit the horn button accidentally ONCE.

Although, I have hit the center of the wheel trying to honk the damn horn MORE than once....

We found towing a fith wheel is not very well done in a RX7 as well.......
The RX7 does not do well in a demolition derby........
Taking a new kitchen table home from the home store proves to be dificult........
You don't get that floating like a huge boat feeling we enjoyed in the '93 Lincolin......

WHO HTE F%#CK CARES???
They always try to compare every car to every task. They where not made to do everything, They where made to do ONE thing ZOOM ZOOM!!

I remember being in the bank and looking at the used car consumer pricing report. The '93-95 RX-7 highlights:

Reliability: Moderate
Braking: Excellent
Ride quality: Poor

Ah yes, the joys of owning an FD.

hah! i do that too! bang on the center of the wheel. i did that a couple of times when i got my fd... now the thumb always hovers over the horn when people are merging. along these lines, the guy i bought my car from was gracious enough to save some old newspaper articles and brochures and things from the FDs early days, if anyone wants me to scan them or something, just give the word.

Actually, any that you could scan and email/post would be awesome. I have several magazine articles... Here's what I have:

Motortrend 06/93
Motortrend 08/93
Road and Track 05/92
Sport Compact Car 11/98 (Pettit Banzai Car)
Fast Fours & Rotaries (Article on RX-7 Race Car)
Sport Compact Car (Monsen's Car)

Anyhow, if you can scan some stuff, that would be cool!
