FD: What can you do w/ bad rotor/housings?

I have extra parts from my motor. I have rotors and alum housings that can't be used by anyone b/c of damage. Is there any value to them or do I just chuck them in the trash? I recall hearing that the inner sheath of the alum housings are removable, but that only Mazda can do this. Is this true?

thanks,

Ramon

clean them up and sell them here...make sure you say they're damaged, but people are always looking for stuff like that for display purposes.

I've never heard of remanufacturing a housing. Like you said it's probably possible but not cost effective.

At the very least take them to your favorite shop as a favor so they can get a few bucks for them from their recycling service. A friend of mine gets cranky anytime I pitch aluminum tranny housings since he gets paid for them by the pound.

I wonder if it will ever be possible to repair housings, how good would that be. I remember reading a long thread on here about a guy that was trying it, cant remember the out come but i think it failed in the long run.

I only know of one company that resurfaces rotor housings. They have the potential to offer a great product. Unfortunately, I can not recommend them because of their turn around time and, more importantly, the quality of core housings that they use.

As far as value, aluminum has pretty good scrap metal value. Too bad they aren't made of brass or copper... drool. Poor man's gold

For a rotor housing you would probably get about $7 scrap value. The trick is to save up a whole bunch of aluminum and take it all at once.

Cermet resurfaced housings are supposed to last longer than regular housings. They were, afterall, used to win the Le Mans.

What a shame. I guess my rotors can be book ends and the alum housing will go to KDR. I knew this was a long shot but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Did you not see my post? If you really want to resurface them you can try the company I'm talking about... but like I said, overall I had a mediocre experience with them. In the end I really liked the housings I received, though.
